La zarigüeya es un animalito que lamentablemente tiene una muy mala reputación, ya que se les tilda de invasores, malolientes, dañinos y muchos las consideran una plaga. En primer lugar, hay que aclarar que no tienen nada que ver con las ratas, aunque guarden algún parecido. Pertenecen al orden de los marsupiales, o sea, aquellas especies cuyas crías en sus primeros días de vida son transportadas en bolsas dentro del cuerpo de la madre. Es un animal de hábitos nocturnos. Su régimen alimenticio es el menor de sus problemas, pues devora con sus potentes dentaduras mamíferos pequeños, huevos, pájaros, reptiles y vegetales, pero también come fruta, maíz y raíces. Sin embargo, posee una fea costumbre que le causa enfrentamientos con el hombre, ya que incursiona en los gallineros donde degüella las gallinas, come una pequeña porción de carne, y deja entero el resto del cuerpo. Estos pequeños seres son indispensables en el equilibrio ecológico de las regiones que habitan, en el control de insectos y roedores, además dispersores de semillas. Sin embargo, el hombre, como en todos los órdenes, invade su hábitat causando muchas muertes de estos individuos.

The opossum is a small animal that unfortunately has a very bad reputation, since they are labeled as invaders, smelly, harmful and many consider them a pest. First of all, we must clarify that they have nothing to do with rats, although they bear some resemblance. They belong to the order of marsupials, that is, those species whose offspring in their first days of life are carried in bags inside the mother's body. It is a nocturnal animal. Its diet is the least of its problems, since it devours with its powerful teeth small mammals, eggs, birds, reptiles and vegetables, but it also eats fruit, corn and roots. However, it has an ugly habit that causes confrontations with man, since it raids chicken coops where it cuts the throats of chickens, eats a small portion of meat, and leaves the rest of the body whole.
These small beings are indispensable in the ecological balance of the regions they inhabit, in the control of insects and rodents, as well as seed dispersers. However, man, as in all orders, invades their habitat causing many deaths of these individuals.
