A Mysterious Object With An Important Function

Again Today, just another day of decorating my house and a nice walk to my local lake for a relaxing break. I noticed Today for the first time ever someone actually using the wheel contraption (below). The wheel is always chained and padlocked to prevent any abuse, only the local Park Council holds the key.

The Council workman told me it is used to control the water pressure of the lake. Kind of like a powerful safety value in the way it operates I assume. Open the valve when the water gets too low, which could affect the fish and wildlife.

In the same way the safety valve stops the lake from overflowing after heavy rain for a long period of time. The water then moves underground to a nearby river.

A simple procedure, but rather clever in my opinion...
