The best time I’ve ever had without paying a cent for it was my 24th birthday celebration, which happened while I was still in school. Anytime I think about good memories that happened in my life, that day always comes to my mind. It was a day filled with love from people around me. I didn’t spend any money, yet I felt rich in happiness. The experience I had on my 24th birthday was an experience that taught me that some of the best moments in life are not bought with money but are shared with people who truly care about us.

At that time, I was in my final year at school. Our department had a special tradition that made that year more memorable for students. Since it was our last year, the department decided to celebrate everyone’s birthday together. Together in the sense that, instead of celebrating students birthdays one by one, all students born in a particular month were celebrated on the last day of that month. The idea was created to bring us closer as classmates and to help us enjoy our final days together before graduation. Interestingly, this tradition started with my set, which made it even more special for us.

My birthday is on the 28th of February, and that year, the 28th of February happened to be the last day of the month. That meant I was included in the February celebration, it was like they were celebrating my own birthday personally.

On that day, the department organized a birthday party for all February born students. Everything was planned and paid for by the department. There was drinks, meals, music, DJ and comedians who performed and made everyone to laughed. I bet you, if you were depressed that day, that depression will live you at once because it was not a dull or moody moments. I felt very happy and grateful because I didn’t expect such a grand celebration. The organisers did a very wonderful job in organising the program. There was smile at every celebrant faces that day.

What made the day even better was the people around me. I was surrounded by amazing course mates and other wonderful people. Everyone was just happy. There was no pressure, no stress about money, many people were ready to even sponsor the celebration the more. We took pictures, we shared food, and enjoyed each other’s company. It felt like a moment where all that mattered was the joy we were sharing together and like I told you earlier, if you were feeling depressed or sad, that depression will live you at that moment because the atmosphere was soo lively.

After the department’s celebration, I thought that was all for the day. But my friends decided to make it even more memorable. Without telling me beforehand, they took me out to celebrate my birthday again. This time, it was more personal. They sponsored everything themselves, the food, the drinks, and the outing. I didn’t pay for anything. What touched me most was not the money they spent but the love and effort they showed. It made me realize how blessed I was to have friends who cared about me.

That day made me understand that good moments don’t always need money. Sometimes, all you need are people who care about you. Being celebrated by my department and then by my friends made me feel loved and appreciated. Till today, I still feel blessed whenever I remember that birthday experience. It may have cost me nothing, but it gave me a memory I will always keep forever.
