silverd510 and the #secretsanta 👈 there.....As the festive season draws near, there’s no better way to celebrate than with a bit of shiny inspiration! For the next 12 days, I’ll be sharing my very own 12 Days of Christmas Countdown, featuring the precious metals I’d love to find under the tree this year. This idea was first dreamt up by a long-time #silvergoldstackers community member and good friend, @silverd510, and it pairs beautifully with our annual #SecretSanta project, where members exchange silver and gold gifts anonymously. Find both original posts here 👉

Originally designed to showcase a growing wishlist, the concept had one rule: the gifts should increase in value as the days progress, culminating on Day 12 with your "holy grail"—the ultimate unattainable piece. It’s a brilliant way to share your wish list and perhaps even give your mystery sender a nudge in the right direction. So, grab a warm drink, and join me each day as I unveil the coins, bars, and rounds I’m dreaming Santa will deliver this Christmas!

DAY 1 : US constitutional silver - A Classic Start to Silver Stacking
For the first day of my precious metals Christmas countdown, I’m wishing for some good old US Constitutional Silver—commonly referred to as "junk silver." This category includes pre-1965 dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars that contain 90% silver. Coins like Mercury dimes, Washington quarters, Franklin halves, and the iconic Walking Liberty half dollars are among the most popular pieces sought by stackers. While they no longer serve as legal tender at their face value, their silver content gives them a timeless allure.

What makes junk silver such a fantastic entry point for silver stacking is its affordability. These coins often trade for a relatively small premium above the silver spot price, making them accessible to beginners and budget-conscious collectors alike. Unlike bullion bars or rounds, junk silver offers a connection to history—you’re holding a piece of everyday life from decades past. Better still, in the United States, there’s always a chance of finding these coins in pocket change, adding a thrill of discovery to your stacking journey.

Their fractional size and easily recognisable designs also make junk silver highly practical. Whether for bartering, small-scale investments, or simply building a diverse collection, these coins offer flexibility and value. For anyone starting their stacking journey, they’re an ideal foundation—and for me, they’re the perfect choice for Day 1 of my wishlist!
