First In-Person Onboarding Event for INLEO

in LeoFinancelast month

Hi, Lions!

This event was the pilot for what will now be carried out in different locations, led by the team and by community leaders who choose to participate.

During this event, I covered the following topics:

  • What is Inleo?
  • How can Inleo enrich your social media experience?
  • Features
  • Monetization on Inleo
  • Leo, Hive, HBD
  • Creator subscriptions
  • Referrals

This took up just half of the event; the rest of the time was dedicated to account creation and a Q&A session.

Here is how I approached this first event:

Choosing the target audience

One thing we've learned over time is that you can't target everyone, or at least not everyone at the same time. This applies to both Inleo and Hive as a whole. You can't do events like this to onboard people to all the DApps and features Hive has. You need to pick an audience and tailor your message to fit their needs. DApps should run their own events, promoting their own products.

For Inleo, we focus on the social media aspect and the creator economy.

For this event, I targeted entrepreneurs, artists, and students. If people from other backgrounds joined, that was awesome, but the goal was a cohesive audience.

Finding a Venue

Once you know your audience, the next step is choosing a venue.

I went for a location that was easy to access, cozy, and had food and drinks available for everyone.

The venue was a coffee shop called "Humos Café" at a hotel in the city. It looked good, represented the brand (look at the colors on the ceiling decoration, haha), but wasn't so fancy that it would intimidate my target audience or put a strain on the budget.

Look for places like this, or libraries that host conferences, they usually already have the food and drinks for this kind of events figured out, and it's cheaper than paying for a separated catering.

Flyer

Having a flyer is important, not only to promote the event but also to give people something they can use to onboard others.

I created this design quickly and have other ideas I want to explore, but the flyer included instructions on how to create an account, a QR code to my referral link, and a second QR code to the referral page, so they could be directed there directly when sharing.

Prepare for unexpected events

I had over 30 people confirmed via a form and text messages, but not all of them could make it to the venue because of random storms in different parts of the city. Some places were hit particularly hard by the weather, which is something we can’t predict, so we had to work with the people who were able to attend.

That’s why the flyers included instructions on how to create an account and information about referrals. The people who were able to attend had something in hand that they could give to others, helping them create their accounts. Since we targeted specific niches and established communities, many of the attendees knew others who couldn’t make it. We’ll keep in touch and track how the number of sign-ups grows from this first group.

After the event

During the event, we practiced threading and explored other features, but there will always be questions that come up after. This is especially true in cases like mine, where there was a slight language barrier because the site and documentation are in English, while my audience speaks Spanish. Having a way for new users to contact you, or for you to contact them, is crucial.

Also, make sure they know how to identify their own referrals so you can track whether there are more onboardings resulting from your in-person event. We used #bqto as the city tag, and I even created a community called "bqto" so all content under that hashtag would be collected there. This also allows us to use the hashtag to share announcements for future in-person events.

What would I improve or do differently

Now that the pilot event is done and I’m seeing the results, there are a few things I’d change for the next one.

I loved everything about the event itself. The first part was a presentation format, with slides and all, and the second part was more of a conversation.

For future events, I’d improve the flyer to make it an even more useful resource on its own. It should have information and multiple QR codes that link to the specific places we want users to visit. This way, attendees can focus on the presentation, knowing that everything they need is in their hands. They can also take some flyers home and share them with others.

For the next event, I would print the flyers on both sides with the following information:

  • QR code with my referral code and instructions on how to create an account
  • QR code to the WhatsApp group
  • QR code to a post with all the resources they might need for a smooth start
  • QR code to their own referral section and instructions on what they get for referring
  • An example of how to create their first thread
  • A 7-day list of topics to thread about

Would that be too many QR codes? Maybe. Can I just put everything inside a post? Not really. Why? Because the number of people who would take the time to read the post is very small. People want things to work fast. The information needs to be there for when they want it, but the account creation and contact info need to be readily available.

The example on how to create a thread is important because people often think that since there are earnings involved, it must be difficult, even though it's actually quite easy.

The calendar is to motivate them to log in within those 7 days, check notifications, and notice the votes and interactions they might want to stick around for.

Thanks to the @hivetalkproject team and my mom and sister for coming to help! :D If you can find your community locally, do so, it’s really important.

I'll prepare the new flyer and my next and I'll let you know how it goes! See you next time! Share your ideas!

Love this! Think you can get many quality users this way and they might also be good to use as ambassadors in the future.

Yes, I actually had a meeting with one of the users after, he's a connection with a university so good things will come from this

That sounds like a good potential partnership

Felicitaciones se ven esos rostros sonrientes y felices del conocimiento adquirido. Un abrazo.

Congratulations on your first attempt! With the referral program we have, it should be possible to get more users out of the ones you onboarded.

Yes! they already have started the process. And we will have more events soon.
It really has a great impact on building a foundation for them to spread the word later

The best part is that the growth is exponential. Each new active users can make it easier to onboard the next one.
