I was thinking today about my process of writing blog posts on Hive (mainly through Leofinance).
Long-form content creation can take more time than one would expect. And sometimes short-form too, as much as we'd like to think how hard can it be to take a picture of your behind and put it online? Without knowing much about it, influencers showing off their body need something to show in the first place, so they probably work hard on staying fit. Just a thought...
Ok, this brought me to an area I know little about, so I'll get back to what I have some experience with, meaning long-form content creation.
Blogging on Hive is far more than typing it and hitting Publish. I'd say this is a less significant part of the entire process, most times.
It certainly is for me. Even more lately.
Let's take the phases an article goes through in my case:
- Idea - can be as simple as something popping up in my mind or going through old ideas or a tiring process of coming up with something to write about when nothing else sparks the idea you are pleased with. Often, during this part, I come up with the title of the article.
- Gather my thoughts / research (if necessary)
- Think of the structure - What do I write about? What don't I? Main sections, if it's the case. How detailed do I want it to be? And therefore, how long?
- Type the article
- Add image(s) - I sometimes do this as I write the article (for example when I write a guide or add other screenshots), other times at the end (usually when I add sourced images).
- Come up with a title if I didn't have one from the start. This is a post where I'll come up with a title at the end.
- Proofread the post
- Add Leoglossary and Splinterglossary links - sometimes I do this as I proofread it or even partially as I write it.
- Add tags - I always add them at the end to avoid accidental publishing
- Publish the post
- Share the post via an email on Listnerds - Always, daily. Many of my commenters come from there. Btw, I reached 100k LISTNERDS staked yesterday. ;)
- Share on LeoThreadsvote too, but not often on Threads., not before I look at the most recent #threads and reply wherever I feel I have something to say (sometimes a stupid thing, lol). Sometimes I
- Reply to commenters (both on the post and on the thread) - This turns into an entire conversation from time to time.
Sometimes, I don't feel like doing the phases after writing the post and would rather publish directly. But I always do them. I heard somewhere that consistency is the key. ;) Let's see what doors it opens.
This is my way of doing things. And I am a daily blogger. It may apply to you or not. You may have an even better process that you use. Any tips could be very useful, either to me or to my readers.
And if you have any questions, you know where to find me. :)

For your step 8, unless someone already knows what’s available, that can be very time consuming.
It is time-consuming even if you know the terms that are defined (for example, in my case with SplinterGlossary - I know all the terms defined since I added them there). After a while of doing this, you pretty much learn which terms are defined and which are not (my case with Leoglossary), and you won't search for terms that aren't defined anymore.
Need to be built into the app to do the search and link automatically.
More people proposed that, including me.

!CTPThanks for sharing your process, @gadrian. That's some pretty awesome consistency you have going there. It should yield very good results.

Thanks, Lisa! Actually, it was consistency that forced me to have a process, to be able to keep it over extended periods of time.

Thanks for opening up your process to us!
I usually have 3-5 ideas for posts that I have saved as drafts. I keep developing them in my head, sometimes even for weeks while adding new ideas to drafts. Usually while doing so, and when there is enough structure, I find myself writing and creating and being unable to stop until it's finished.
May sound kinda weird but it works for me! 🙂

It's not weird at all. At the same time, you have the luxury of not writing daily, which releases some of the pressure. I might return to a less frequent posting schedule someday because it certainly has its benefits too.
It certainly has its pros. Let's say I want to post daily and have two posts ready in drafts I can then use the extra day for curating and commenting and making new connections for example.
I never think about the steps, but it is nice to have them listed like this. !CTP

I haven't put the steps in a list before either. Thanks for dropping by!
Thank you for sharing your sequence. Appreciate it.

You're welcome. I hope it helps.
Looks like a good train of thought. I don’t write very much but do get a couple in each week.

Thanks! Yep, I used to write less often too a while ago, but I returned to a daily pace.
I appreciate you sequencing your process for creating a post. My process is similar but I never thought about it until now.

To be honest, I never put it in words until this post either. Just in my mind.
I am reblogging this. This is very useful and I printed it out for reference. Thank you for this guide it's easy to understand for ppl like me .

Thanks! I'm glad this helps you.
Oh, I am so glad you shared this on Listnerds! I love seeing the processes that others use when creating, it's so helpful on so many fronts. Thanks a bunch!

Thank you! I always enjoyed your natural writing style, talking about life and with so many photos to make us feel like we are there. I would be so bad at that, lol.
Interesting list! This is useful and thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
The work you put into it shows in all your post @gadrian. Why most of us take the time to read it. My time is so limited that my structure is more - on the go - so although I subscribe to many steps on your list, I can't produce the quality that you and many others can. I don't lament it. I'm cool with that. It's who I am, but glad folks like you provide the good stuff to read and learn from.

Thank you for the compliments, Jimmy! I definitely understand not having time. When time is limited, something needs to get cut. And you compensate in other ways, by being present in many places where many of us don't, or rarely at that level of engagement.
You have you're posting down to a science, Adrian.
I just get an idea and write it out, lol

Maybe not quite a science... But I have to have a system, doing this daily and sometimes being pressed for time. Many phases simply need to be on autopilot, without much thinking involved.
I didn't notice that, not until now. Congrats!

Thanks, man! It's been a slow growth lately, but it's nice to have reached it.
I have a similar process and it's tough. I find it kind of tough to write up a post and some of them just ends up as drafts because I don't finish them. I am not a daily blogger but I hope to finish it more over time.

It happened to me (more than once) to write almost an entire post and delete it entirely because I wasn't pleased with how that turned out. Very frustrating when that happens!
Thank you for sharing this is a great resource for post creation

Microblogging isn't the no-brainer many people think it is.
When we post solo threads at LeoThreads, or reply to threads of others, it can be a no-brainer. But if you want to tie together 2 or more threads-- 1/n-- then that requires effort and work.
Much of that effort and work is just making sure that each thread is at most 240 characters. If it exceeds that count, then it's time to figure out how to remove excess characters, or to make the thread shorter without making it look like a jumble of letters and emojis.
I'm not even considering points such as headlines for grabbing attention, testing content for impressions, or including images (currently a character-killer here).
If the threadstorm is 5, 10, or 20 threads long, that's the day right there.
