Week 17 Results | 21W-20L-6P | -1.119 Units Loss

This is a weekly overview of my personal sports betting/trading results on teams from the Belgian Jupiler League, documenting my journey toward long-term profit with some insights on my overall approach.

Pretty much all the profit I made the week before, I gave back this week and I didn't manage to get much going and in too many occasions I just was on the wrong side while my focus also wasn't always 100% even though I don't feel that really cost me anything.

It is getting harder and harder to have rather strong views on matches with the odds not reflecting that giving a sense of good value. There were 3 of these last week and none really turned out the way I anticipated. This kind of confirms the trend that betting has been in where you need to take thin edges and just grind your way trough it with lower stakes settling for less than what it used to be. At the same time I still believe there is a skill level someone can have that gets passed this still finding good edges where the bookies and the crowd did not see something.

The 3 main confident views I had last week were:

OHL +1 @ 1.939 in the cup as on a podcast I listened to the 'inside newspaper experts' claimed that Club Brugge was putting priority on the league and the Champions League while if needed sacrificing the cup for that. So with Brugge already in a bad flow especially away, a +1 line on the home team even though they are not great felt like too high and likely rotations would lower that potentially a lot. It turned out though that Club coach Hayen did field his A-Squad (who were already a bif fatigued) while OHL coach did 7 subs. The good thing was that odds were still lower compared to what I took so I managed to get out of the position which was part of the plan if needed. in the end at 1-1 score I hedged a bit more to still make some profit on that match but the entire setup didn't at all play out as anticipated.

Cercle Brugge 1H Corners vs Standard. On of the way to beat the market is to mainly look at who are the team attacking and which teams opts to play on the counter which usually directs the way the corners will go. Cercle vs Standard was one of those matches where I anticipated 1-way traffic with Standard defending which did not fully play out that way as it was an up and down match. Luckily it's quite hard to get into corners with decent stakes pre-game so I waited and the broadcast started some minutes after the match already began and the 1-0 came in the first minutes which was disallowed. I was able to get better odds than expected and still played it rather cautiously with a 0.4 unit stake. Cercle create the first corners but with a match where it felt that the next one could go either way I opted to put some of the stake safe which lost me an absolute minimum on that match

Antwerp vs Genk I anticipated an open match where mainly Antwerp would get punished for believing too much. While it did go to 3 goals which made me lose a minimum, it ended in a 3-0 score and even though Genk did get some chances to score, the home win was fully deserved

I know these are only 3 matches but it's been clear for quite some time that picking strong selections almost never turns out in easy winners which makes it hard to go bigger on my stakes. Instead I keep everything extremely cautious.

Pre-Game Preview Bets Season 2025-2026

I only took up OHL +1 as an official bet as the limits were high enough to get in as much as I wanted which ended up in a push. I have grown a whole lot more conservative with these bets though but I'm sure more will eventually follow as the season progresses. It's nice though to still have them with positive results at 14.32% ROI

Season 2025-2026 Personal Betting Chart

While I'm still on track this season compared to the expected profit out of the bets that I took, I really should also add a line of 'expected profit based on targeted volume. At let's say 8 units that I at least want to stake each week, the profit would be at +3.672 units while now with my current volume I'm only at +2.377 units profit. At the same time, I'm still happy to see green overall numbers though.
