Hiking Boquerón Volcano in El Salvador

in LeoFinancelast month (edited)

Aside from its progressive Bitcoin legal tender laws, El Salvador has a lot to offer, especially to outdoor and nature enthusiasts. The country is also known internationally for its big waves, surf competitions, and high-quality coffee.

Moreover, just a 30 minute drive from San Salvador is El Boquerón National Park (otherwise know as the San Salvador Volcano). The top of this inactive volcano has great views, and is full of diverse flora and fauna.

If you want to avoid traffic at peak ours (like during sunset) you should arrive on a weekday, as that will make finding parking easier.

Once you've parked your car, it takes about 15 minutes to hike up to the mirador (viewing point). As a foreigner, you will have to pay $2 to enter the park, which is especially green this time of year, as November is the tail end of the rainy season.

From the top you can enjoy watching the sun set below the lip of the volcano. Some random dogs may also greet you as you as you make your way along the path, but they are harmless.

Come down before it gets dark, for your own safety, as there is no artificial lighting. You may also want to bring a sweater to keep you warm as the temperature drops into the evening.

There are restaurants and cafes along the road leading back to San Salvador, where you can stop to sip on a latte or hot chocolate whilst enjoying the view of the city lights below.

Until next time...

Very nice!

That looks awesome! How long are you staying over there?

For a while...

El Salvador seems to be one of the few countries that has their shit together.
