Marvel movies are getting worse and here's why

Not everyone loves superhero movies but they surely are really popular not only among Americans, but also audiences all around the world. They are fun to watch and they tackle a really basic concepts: struggle of good against evil. Not all of them are good too, but if there are two superhero movies, that are considered great by a wider audience, these must be "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame".

And while I personally didn't really like both of them as much due to artistic reasons, I can't deny that they were just great as movies building a big franchise. People loved them and so did I, mostly. The latter one was also a nice culmination of Marvel's third faze. And the fourth faze has come. And it's bad. Really bad.

Don't get me wrong, I have seen both "Black Widow" as well as "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" and I had some fun. But what hit me is how schematic and poorly-writen were both of those films. First of all, both had nig potential. "Black Widow" could have easily been an interesting spy thriller and an emotional farewell to beloved title character. But it weren't. Why? Due to lazy scriptwriting. Every Marvel movie MUST end with a super-big fight, in which our heroes save the world from a supervillain. The problem is, that this simply gets boring. The villains usually lack good motivation and are really cliche and paper and the final is simply too much. Yes, the CGI is great, action sequences are okayish, but ultimately the movie feels really empty. There is no real emotional weight to saving the world anymore.

And that is precisely why I think that Marvel movies are recently getting worse. They are made like a product in factory and I'm siply afraid, that their scheme is simply not working anymore. I don't even wait for "Eternals" anymore...

Do you agree with me or do you think that Marvel movies are still fun? Please share your thoughts in the comments!

I think they are getting worse because they are over-milking this cash cow and are running out of ideas.

They are made like a product in factory

Exactly, and since even the bad ones do really well globally, I would imagine that they aren't going to stop making them anytime soon :)

Thanks for your comment! I agree with you and I might only add, that this might be getting worse, since China film market is rapidly growing and unfortunately Chinese audiences love the mixture of CGI and simple stories...

I hope that they will try to fix something. Anything. We'll see about that!

I think that the Asian market drives most of their decisions. Complicated plots with Oscar-winning performances don't translate so easily i guess... plus there's the censorship aspect of it. No other country has the budget that these massive Marvel films do so from a financial point of view, i can totally understand why they continue to repackage the same crap over and over again.

Oh god, yes. I think the same about Black Widow, was awful. Formulaic and always taking the “safe” path.
