”Half of the Tarygaryen went mad didn't they? What is the saying; every time a Tarygaryen is born the gods flip a coin"
Earlier this year around March I saw the first season of House of Dragon. I should have done that last year, but decided to hold off till the second season premiered before I started watching the series. Now, I have seen the second season and I loved every bit of it. However, I am sad that I have to wait for two solid years for the third season to be ready, which is a very long time to me. I mean how do I fill the void this tv show has left me with.
As I talk about my experience with this show, I will try as much as possible to not give any spoilers. I know some people are yet to watch it.
”House Of Dragon” is a tv series that comprises of three genres (fantasy, adventure and action). It is a prequel to Game of Thrones which was created by George R. R. Martin based on his books, fire and Blood. This second season has a total number of 8 episodes. It starred Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Fabien Frankel, Steve Toussaint, Sonoya Mizuno, Ewan Mitchell, Eve Best, Harry Collett, Tom Glynn-Carney, Bethany Antonia, Clinton Liberty and many others we might be familiar with.
The Characters That Impressed Me
Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen
Angos Meleys
Oh Princess Rhaenys, you will forever be remembered. Eve will always be remembered for the iconic role she played in this tv series. I so much enjoyed and loved her character. She is Viserys and Daemon's older cousin and the wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon. She is also known as the "Queen Who Never Was”. She is a character whose loyalty to the house of Tarygaryen was undivided and true. She is brave, noble, collected, smart and above all, an experienced dragon rider. She carried her roll with strong charisma that can't be ignored. If I were to look for a character that matched her personality from GOT, I would go for Ned Stark.
Emma D'Arcy as Queen Rhaenyra
Emma carried her role like a pro. Smart, unpredictable, charismatic and adventurous. I loved how she played the role of a grieving mother who lost her child in the brunt of a brewing war and immediately transformed to a queen who wanted her throne that was taken from her. I enjoyed how she transformed her grief, pain and hurt into strength. She didn't fall apart, but she put it all together like a queen. Regardless of the fact that she lost her son, she was focused on the goal, she didn't give up. I enjoyed watching her and seeing her pull together resources from all sides for the upcoming war was good.
Matt Smith as Prince Daemon
From the first season of this tv show, Matt already won over my heart with his iconic performance. In this second season I didn't expect much from him because I knew his role time was a bit limited. Still He didn't disappoint me. He gave me a thrilling ending to this second season. It was electrifying and I can't to see him do his thing in the third season. I enjoyed his dark humor in this season. He was ruthless, ambitious and at the same time the comic relief for me. I wouldn't say he was silly but I will say he was unpredictable in a dark way. I like that more of his back story was told for us to understand more about his character.
Overall, all the cast of this season were expectionally good! They all acted their roles well, they were the right pick, it was easy to connect with them, feel and experience all their individual ordeal.
My Review And Rating
The second season of this tv series didn't disappoint me. It met my expectations and right now, I can't wait to get to see the third season. Waiting for two years will be quite a long journey.
I love the way the plot was written though it can't capture all the events in the book, but still it covered the vital events that are important to the development of the characters. Themes that were explored in this show are strong and sensitive themes that we experience everyday in our lives. The themes also explore the darkness of humanity. Themes like; power struggles, war, legacy, family dynamics, greed, betrayal and loyalty.
One thing that also impressed me was that the lighting flaw they had in the previous season, it was correct in this second. Every scene was shot with proper lighting. Visually, I applaud all the work and effort that was put into it to bring to life the beauty and brutality of the story. The CGI of the dragons were impressive and very convincing. They were majestic and fearsome at the same time. The flight scenes were shot well with an excellent camera range that gave us 360° POV. The battle scenes were thrilling to watch.
Also, I appreciate the storytelling technique that was used. It is perfectly paced, there was a seamless balance between the political plays, romantic scenes, explosive confrontations and battle scenes. All these kept me hooked from beginning to the end. I was always eager to start the next episode without taking a break.
Rating this series, I will give it 9 out of 10 stars. It was interesting, entertaining, and thrilling. I love all the action, the flight scenes, beautiful! . I would recommend this TV show to any fantasy lover.
