Qasr Al Hosn, from the discovery of pearls to the most important building in Abu Dhabi(UAE)

Hello travelers

In today's blog we're going to the center of Abu Dhabi to visit the oldest stone building in the area.

If you read my older blogs you already know that exploring the sights of Abu Dhabi I didn't do on my own but through a travel agency in Dubai, an agency run by Romanian citizens.

We traveled from Dubai to Abu Dhabi with a modern coach, anyway the distance between them is not too far.

At first sight after having visited Abu Dhabi Corniche Road (if you want to see the blog here), Abu Dhabi seems to me to be in a continuous development, through the bus window I could see in the distance how new islands and impressive buildings were being born.

Many cruise ships were anchored in this area.

I still remember now a picture where somewhere in the distance I could see the Louvre museum (yes, you read it right, there is a Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi and not only in Paris) and next to it a construction site of the future skyscrapers, even though I wanted to get to explore this museum, time was very short and I didn't make it.

Before getting to this palace the organizers made a half an hour stop in a traditional market here, aww I tasted so many sweets, and they were so tasty, and yes, I bought quite a lot of sweets to take back home to Romania.

Well, the bus is almost at the entrance of this palace, our tour is guided and now we found out that we will spend about two hours here (I wrote here that I don't really like guided tours because I always feel on the run) because today we will visit another amazing place.

You know, I can't really stand excessive heat, and look, today I was lucky enough to be extremely warm outside, even though it was late December 2023.

We are ready to start exploring Qasr Al Hosn, just a few steps after we got off the bus everything around is impressive, right in front of the main entrance was a place where you could walk, but because of the heat we didn't see many people there.

For a better understanding of the history and importance of this place I have chosen to leave you the information I found and the sources where I have them, enjoy the beauty of the place.

In a city like Abu Dhabi, where things are constantly evolving, there are some parts where time almost stands still. Qasr Al Hosn is one of them. The city's oldest stone building is a commanding figure surrounded by the emirate's skyline - a beautiful contrast between old and new.Qasr Al Hosn in Abu Dhabi was built in the 1790s and was once home to the ruling family. The building also housed the National Consultative Council, founded by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founder of the UAE. Transformed into a museum in 2018 after a decade's worth of intensive conservation and very delicate restorative work, walking into the Al Hosn fort is like stepping into a time capsule. Qasr Al Hosn is located on Sheikh Rasid Bin Saaed Al Maktoum Street, roughly 30 minutes from Zayed International Airport.
On entering, the first iconic buildings that you will see are the Inner Fort, constructed in 1795, and the Outer Palace, built between 1939-45. Slowly, look up and lay your eyes on the original watchtower. When Abu Dhabi was a small fishing village, Qasr Al Hosn overlooked the coastal trade routes and protected the growing community on the island. Walking through every area of Qasr Al Hosn is a delightful experience that makes you want to linger longer.

I forgot to write you how much an entrance ticket cost here, from what I remember we paid around 30AED/8$/person, and in this case we took several tickets to several sights from the travel agency.

Thank you for showing us the center of Abu Dhabi. It is really a wonderful city. I also notice that the sky is intensely blue, it almost seems that the air is clean and it is a city that is also not very polluted. Thank you for telling us about the capital of the United Arab Emirates and for showing us these wonderful photos.

I'm really glad you liked it and thank you for stopping by, Abu Dhabi is an amazing and ever-changing city, I'll be happy to share more of the city's sights with you in upcoming blogs.
