Hi dear Hive community,
We are pretty sure that by now you know Slovenia a lot more. We've been posting a lot of hidden places to visit, and yet we always discover something new. It's surprising how rich the landscape is and how much things you can do, considering that it's such a small country.
One morning we spontaneously decided to visit Soca river and it's spring near Vršič pass. The source of the river comes from a cave in emerald, very lively blue green colour. The whole walk from parking place takes 20 minutes. We recommend to have sport shoes as you need to climb a little bit to reach.
Since day just started we decided to also visit the highes mountain road in Slovenia - to Mangart saddle, which lies high on 2055 meters. There is a starting point to reach Mangart, a third largest mountain in Slovenia. Many people however comes there simply to wonder around the area and enjoy the views. There are nicely arranged benches and resting places. However, the place should really be avoided to visit in high season. The only option would be to take a bus, which will save you a looot of nerves. The road is two-way road, but there is mostly space only for one car. Therefore you need to be quite skilled driver to be able to maneuver and make space when meeting another car.
So how to reach here? Well, from Bovec in Soca Valley you must follow the main road to Predel pass and Italian border. After very photogenic village called Strmec comes one crossroad where you take right. And if you are lucky and visit off season, you don't need to wait in the line. Due to safety reasons, the maximum number of cars going up or down is 50. Even that is way too much in our view. This 12 kilometers of a very narrow road can be really exhausting.
We are used to drive in small, narrow streets since there are many on the outskirts of the country. We were not scared and knew there will also be less people. The day was full of sun and we really sunbathed a lot. It was warm, occasionally some wind came but it was pleasant. The mountain cabin was already closed. We saw many big birds circling in the sky, that was really a nice view.
Next time we also want to do the hiking to the top. If you are early enough to go before all the other hikers, it's beautiful and a nice hike. We will definitely let you know in a post.
Thank you for reading!
Wish you a nice day!

Thank you! It was very easy taking them when everywhere you looked was wonderful! 😊 Wish you a nice day!
What a beautiful view! Well worth the trouble to get there! I was in Slovenia only once, in 1979, when it was Yugoslavia. I visited an acquaintance near Lesce. I was only there for a couple of days, but it was long enough to see it is a beautiful country.
