E3 in western Slovakia - Day 41 ( Stage 5 )

in Worldmappinlast year

Hello to all who wandered into this post. For today, I have prepared another part of my travels along the long-distance European route E3. In today's episode, we will look even deeper into the Malá Fatra mountain range, which is located in western Slovakia.

Vítám všechny kteří zabloudili do tohoto postu.

After having to make an emergency camp last night in a spot I found in the dark. And thanks to a wind storm with a little rain, I hardly got any sleep at night. When the rain stopped knocking on the shelter in the morning, I was quite relieved that I wouldn't stay on the ridge. When I get out fo sheleter. I see only thick fog, which was also not ideal in the wild terrain.

Basically, I only passed all the peaks, because no more than 15 meters could be seen.

A little before noon, near the top of Poludňový Grúň (1460m), the clouds began to break and I finally saw why this place is so sought after by tourists from the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The next prominent peak was supposed to be the Stoh hill (1607m), but as soon as I came to the foot I found out that it would not be possible to climb to the top. Because the road was chalky and completely wet. So the road was incredibly slippery and after about 50 meters of elevation I left the climb totally exhausted. I took the circular yellow trail, but it wasn't much better there.

Protože cesty byly vápenité a naprosto mokré.

The path was on a steep slope, quite muddy in places. Therefore, less than two kilometers were a struggle for survival.

Cestička byla v prudkém svahu, místy dosti rozbahněná. Proto necelé dva kilometry byly bojem o přežití.

When I finally reached the pass under Velký Rozsutec (1610m), I saw where the trail went and looked at my boots covered in mud. I immediately canceled the climb because it would not be safe to go to the top. That's why I again chose the yellow trail leading along the foothills. This time the trail was very accessible and I gave my legs quite a rest.

At the very end of Malá Fatra National Park, I walked through a very old forest, where some trees were absolutely monstrous like this beech.

As soon as I got back to the E3 route, I continued into the valley to the village of Zázrivá, where I bought some food and especially water, because it is not very common in the limestone rocks. And again I headed for the ridge, which is part of the Oravská Magura mountain range. Where I came across the perfect place to sleep. I couldn't have wished for better, because there was a wooden hut with an outdoor table with a bench and a fire pit available for overnight stays. I fell asleep almost immediately after sunset.

It's a shame that the most beautiful part of Malá Fatra was in the fog, at least I have a reason to return here at least once more. In the whole day I walked 23.1 Km in rough terrain. I overcame an elevation of 936 meters and descended 1489 meters. I visited 8 summits and saw nothing from most of them. And in the end, he ended a demanding day at an absolutely ideal place to spend the night.

Překonal převýšení 936 metrů a sestoupal 1489 metrů. Navštívil jsem 8 vrcholů, přičemž z většiny jsem nic neviděl. A nakonec zakončil náročný den na naprosto ideálním nocovišti.

Sort:

Mám odtamtud podobný zážitek jako Ty. Taky mlha... Navíc jsem tam byl s dětmi. Asi 50 dětí, deváťáci, a 3 dospělí. Polovina června. Mlha a zima. Úplně si vybavuju vůně a svoje tehdejší pocity...

Sounds like a great adventure! We traveled the Tatra mountains too last summer, it was a pleasure been there. Travel Slovakia

The journey after E3 is definitely an adventure. And I'm glad I decided to follow her wherever I could. For example, as a Czech, I ignored Slovakia for a long time, but what I'm finding out was a mistake, because the mountain ranges are wilder here. It just wants to choose the right time to avoid the crowds. Which was achieved in the first week of September.

What a walk! Thank you for sharing those beautiful view and experience. Was it cold there? It looked so foggy!

It was around 12 degree Celsius. Sometimes breeze wind. Nice weather for hiking, except fog.

Beautiful, thank you for sharing.
