Tuscan Serenity: A Peaceful Day in the Hilltop Village of Casaglia

Welcome back to my blog! Today, I want to share with you some photos I took of another beautiful place located in Tuscany—a region I hold very dear. One day, far in the future when I’m retired, I’m sure I’ll move to this enchanting part of the world.

Today, I’d like to talk about a charming little village in the Montecatini Val di Cecina municipality, in the province of Pisa, called Casaglia. This village is lucky enough to be nestled on a hill from which you can enjoy stunning views. I was especially fortunate because that day the weather was perfect, with a clear, bright blue sky, as you can see from the photos. What strikes you most upon arriving is the feeling of being completely surrounded by nature—a beautiful sensation of being immersed in greenery.

The origins of this ancient village remain a bit of a mystery, but it likely developed during the medieval period, especially considering its proximity to Pisa. The first thing that immediately captures your attention is the castle, which dates back to 1186, and I must say, it’s still in pretty good condition.
As you can see, the houses in this village are quite simple. They are traditional farmhouses, homes that were once provided by landowners to the farmers who worked the surrounding lands. These rural dwellings are common in the Italian countryside, especially in Tuscany. They are a part of our history and traditions, and in my opinion, they deserve to be preserved over time.

As I continued my walk, I also came across the Church of San Giovanni Battista, which dates back to the 1200s, although it was later rebuilt in the Neo-Romanesque style. Unfortunately, I wasn’t lucky enough to find the church open, so I couldn’t visit the inside.

Still, I was very happy to stroll through this peaceful village. It’s in a beautiful location with breathtaking views, and I don’t think many people live there permanently. The overwhelming feeling this place gives you is one of peace and serenity.
