If you pass through Venezuela, do not forget to visit the paradise of the lands of the Falcón state, lands of sterile areas, of pagan fistas, of great churches and cathedrals and a stupendous colonial architecture, of great national parks with crystalline waters, there you can also find the best known desert in Venezuela. It is actually a long and narrow strip of land that connects the Paraguaná peninsula through which a road passes that allows visitors to get out of their vehicles and walk through the immense sand dunes molded by the wind, the famous dunes of Coro.
Part of the charms is reaching Coro, the capital, Founded in 1527, the city is located directly in front of the isthmus of the Médanos de Coro National Park, there you can visit the first bishopric and the first cathedral of Venezuela that was named as Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 1993. It is the showcase of the most beautiful and best preserved colonial architecture in Venezuela.

The churches are one of the few 16th century religious monuments left in Venezuela; the church and convent of San Francisco (late 19th century); the church and the cross of San Clemente (17th century); the Arcaya and Senior houses, with beautiful wooden balconies in the corner; the Alberto Henríquez Museum, where the old Jewish oratory has been restored, whose sandy floor evokes a particular style of the Antillean islands; the church of San Nicolás (18th century); the Jewish cemetery, the oldest on the continent, and the house of Santa Rosa, all skillfully restored.

The landscape of the Paraguaná peninsula is one of the most distinctive in Venezuela: arid extensions of land populated by xerophytic vegetation and trees called cujíes, whose crowns acquire strange “combed” shapes due to the action of the trade winds. Even the houses have a particular architecture, squat in shape and whitewashed walls, to preserve their interiors from the heat and sunshine. In its towns, traditional architecture coexists with horizons where the winds and the sun never cease.

Falcón's strange variety of landscapes shelters several national parks of exceptional beauty. To the east is the Morrocoy National Park, between the towns of Tucacas and Chichiriviche, a set of islands and coasts covered with mangroves that form a regal tapestry that combines intense greens with the unimaginable blues of the water. Morrocoy borders the Cuare wildlife refuge, where more than seventy percent of all wild duck species that perch in the country during boreal migrations concur.
