Argentina - Sunrise at 9 AM and better weather for our second day in the mountains of Bariloche. / Amanecer a las 9 AM y un mejor clima para nuestro segundo día en las montañas de Bariloche. 😃❤️

After the smart decision to pay for a comfortable night's sleep at the mountain hut, I woke up feeling very rested and in the best mood ever. My somewhat experienced trekking self knew that after walking 15 km in the snow I was going to need a good rest, so I was glad to have had a comfortable night. And the mountain that embraces the Frey Refuge is so beautiful and wonderful that I didn't even have to wake up so early to see a beautiful sunrise. Sleeping without an alarm, I opened my eyes almost at 9 AM and to my surprise, the golden hour of the beginning of the day was still there ❤️.

Después de la inteligente decisión de pagar por dormir cómodamente en el refugio de montaña, me desperté muy descansada y con el mejor humor de todos. Mi yo algo experimentado en el trekking sabía que después de caminar 15 km en la nieve iba a necesitar un buen descanso, así que me alegró haber tenido una noche cómoda. Y la montaña que abraza al Refugio Frey es tan hermosa y maravillosa que ni siquiera tuve que despertarme tan temprano para ver un hermoso amanecer. Durmiendo sin alarma abrí los ojos casi a las 9 AM y para mi sorpresa, la hora dorada del inicio del día todavía estaba ahí ❤️.

This trip was one of the most anticipated by all of us who were traveling in the motorhome together for two weeks. I had never done such a long trek in the snow, but the experience of being accompanied by other hikers was satisfying. Each of us went at our own pace, but we all managed to reach the end of the trail safe and sound. Of the 12 of us who went, only I chose to pay $25 to sleep inside the shelter, while everyone else camped in the snow 😃.

Este paseo era uno de los más esperados por todos los que estábamos viajando en el motorhome, juntos hacia dos semanas. Yo nunca había hecho un trekking tan largo en la nieve, pero la experiencia de ir acompañada con otros caminantes fue satisfactoria. Cada uno de nosotros fue a su propio ritmo, pero todos logramos llegar hasta el final del camino sanos y salvos. De los 12 que fuimos, solo yo elegí pagar $25 por dormir en el interior del refugio, mientras que todos los demás acamparon en la nieve 😃.

Since I chose to sleep in privileged conditions, I was able to rest late and by the time I finally got up at 9 AM, almost all my companions were already awake as well. None of them had a tent or any suitable equipment for camping in low temperatures, so their night was not good at all. They barely managed to get a wink of sleep, and as if that were not enough, the wind blew snow into their tents. But after a long night, dawn finally came and we were all able to enjoy this great moment of the day together 😅.

Como yo elegí dormir en condiciones privilegiadas, pude descansar hasta tarde y para cuando al fin me levanté a las 9 AM, casi todos mis compañeros ya estaban despiertos también. Ninguno de ellos tenía una carpa o elementos adecuados para acampar en bajas temperaturas, así que su noche no fue para nada buena. Apenas lograron pegar un ojo, y como si eso fuera poco, el viento hizo que la nieve entrara en sus carpas. Pero después de una larga noche, al fin se hizo la hora del amanecer y todos juntos pudimos disfrutar de este gran momento del día 😅.

Our mountain guide was the motorhome driver, and he did a good job because he had already traveled this trail in the snow a few times. He also prepared a lunch for us with two lunches, dinner and breakfast so that we would not lack food on the journey. We took a moment to acclimatize inside the shelter and around 11 AM we started our way back. Being July and the middle of winter in Argentina, the cold did not let up so we had to protect ourselves as much as possible from the wind and snow. My outfit was not very elegant, but at least I did not freeze 😂.

Quien nos hizo de guía de montaña fue el chofer del motorhome, e hizo un buen trabajo porque ya recorrió este sendero con nieve unas cuantas veces. Él también se encargó de prepararnos una vianda con dos almuerzos, cena y desayuno para que no nos faltara comida en la travesía. Nos tomamos un momento para aclimatarnos dentro del refugio y alrededor de las 11 AM emprendimos nuestro camino de regreso. Siendo julio y pleno invierno en Argentina, el frío no daba tregua así que tuvimos que protegernos todo lo posible del viento y la nieve. Mi outfit no era muy elegante, pero al menos no me congelé 😂.

I had already walked this trail in summer, but doing it in winter was wonderful. Snow has the power to completely transform the landscape, and it makes everything more challenging. Of the 15 km we walked back to the campsite where the motorhome was, perhaps only the first kilometer, near the shelter, was the most difficult. At that point the snow was very fresh and powdery, so it was difficult to move without getting buried. As for the rest of the trail, it remained quite friendly 😃.

Yo ya había recorrido esta senda en verano, pero hacerla en invierno fue algo maravilloso. La nieve tiene ese poder de transformar completamente el paisaje, además de que vuelve todo más desafiante. De los 15 km que caminamos de regreso hasta el camping donde estaba el motorhome, quizás solo el primer kilómetro, cercano al refugio, fue el más difícil. En ese punto la nieve estaba muy fresca y hecha polvo, así que era complicado moverse sin enterrarse. En cuanto al resto del camino, se mantuvo bastante amigable 😃.

While I felt able to walk much further without stopping due to my good night's sleep in a warm bed, this was not the same for my trekking companions. They were really cold in the tents and after walking back for more than four hours, their moods were not the best. Although camping was free and sleeping inside the shelter cost $25, they all chose to sleep in the tent to live the experience of camping. But after the terrible night they spent, I think they did not want to repeat it 😅.

Mientras que yo me sentía en condiciones de caminar mucho más sin parar debido a mi buena noche durmiendo en una cama calentita, esto no era lo mismo para mis compañeros de trekking. Ellos realmente pasaron mucho frío en las carpas y después de caminar de regreso por más de cuatro horas, sus humores no eran los mejores. Si bien acampar era gratis y dormir dentro del refugio salía $25, todos ellos eligieron dormir en la carpa para vivir la experiencia de ese acampe. Pero después de la terrible noche que pasaron, creo que no les quedaron ganas de volver a repetirlo 😅.

Most of the trips I've made so far have been in the summer season, so I was glad to visit Bariloche in its winter season. This city and its surroundings are one of the most chosen by tourists for their winter vacations, and this year I had the chance to be there too. Traveling in the low season is good because it's much cheaper, but now I understand why winter is so expensive here: these landscapes are incredible 💘.

La mayoría de todos los viajes que hice hasta el momento fueron en temporada de verano, así que me alegró visitar Bariloche en su época invernal. Esta ciudad y sus alrededores es uno de los más elegidos por los turistas para sus vacaciones de invierno, y este año yo tuve la posibilidad de estar ahí también. Viajar en temporada baja está bueno porque es bastante más económico, pero ahora entendí por qué el invierno es tan caro acá: estos paisajes son increíbles 💘.

While it took us about seven and a half hours to get to Refugio Frey, we hiked down in five and a half hours. It's nice to walk in the snow, but it doesn't allow you to walk so fast that you'd save time, even if we were going downhill. However, I wasn't in a hurry to get back to the motorhome, but instead I was taking my time to admire the scenery. Going to Refugio Frey in winter was one of the coolest things we did on our three-week trip through Argentine Patagonia. All in all, I have to say that it wasn't as terrible as I imagined 😅.

Mientras que llegar hasta el Refugio Frey nos tomó unas siete horas y media de caminata, la bajada la hicimos en cinco y media. Es lindo caminar en la nieve, pero tampoco te permite caminar tan rápido como para ganar tiempo, aunque estuviéramos en bajada. Sin embargo, yo no estaba apurada por llegar de nuevo al motorhome, sino que me tomaba mi tiempo tranquilo para ir admirando los paisajes. Ir al Refugio Frey en invierno fue una de las cosas más geniales que hicimos en nuestro viaje de tres semanas por la Patagonia Argentina. Haciendo un balance final, debo decir que no era tan terrible como me imaginaba 😅.
