Gliding above River Beas - A Joyous Gondola Ride

“What if it falls?”, that was the first question everyone asked while boarding the gondola cable car. To think of something as scary as this is one thing, to blurt it out in front of strangers is altogether a different thing.

Keep your nasty thoughts to yourself dude, why open your mouth and spoil everyone’s mood.

That’s how our gondola ride started.

Recently a cable car ropeway has come up near my hometown that glides above the might River Beas and takes one across the river in a matter of 5 minutes. Earlier their used to be a road connecting the two sides but it was a tiring journey because the roads were narrow and the valleys deep.

The temple atop the mountain is revered by people from across the state and that’s how the idea of starting a gondola ride originated. It took years and years of deliberations before it could be made operational. On December 3, 2024, the State Chief Minister inauguarated this project and it has become an instant hit among the locals and tourists alike.

I mean, who would not want to fly above the river and see the bluish green waters from top.

Ours was an accidental visit and it turned out to be a great outing. After that dude uttered those stupid words, My mother kept praying throughout the journey although she got comfortable on her way back.

The newly made highway looked beautiful from the top. The temple atop was bustling with life. People headed towards Manali, a major tourist destination in North India, also stopped to relish this new experience.

I visited this temple a few years ago and since then a lot has changed here. Earlier, during the rainy season, it used to be a huge problem to commute because of frequent landslides and infrequent bus service. I hope this new venture will bring better economical opportunities for the locals.
