Staying At The Bethlen-Haller Castle

in Worldmappin2 years ago

Going on vacation is always a good thing, especially if you choose a nice place. Some prefer noisy, metropolitan cities, where night clubs are the main attraction during the night, while others would be happy to enjoy some quiet time in a place where there's plenty of green and fresh air as well.

Staying At The Bethlen-Haller Castle.jpg

The past few weeks I've posted about the Bethlen-Haller Castle, which is situated in Transylvania, Alba county and if you're in the region, it is a must visit. If you've missed my previous posts, you should check them out here, here and here.

Today I'd like to show you the accommodation available, the restaurant and the wine shop as well, to let you know what to expect in case you want to spend a weekend there, or maybe more and also show you what this place has to offer when it comes to wine.

When you pass the gate and see the enchanting castle, you stop and spend a few minutes just looking at the castle.

Then you turn around and see this view. In old days, when the castle's owner were nobles, this is where the servants lived and those who worked the lands. Now that building serves as accommodation for tourists. After visiting the castle, I was curious to see what these rooms look like, so we went to have a look.

These are double rooms, each having a back terrace with a gorgeous view to the church.

20220911_150943a.jpg

You don't have too much privacy here as these rooms are attached to each other and the terraces are not isolated, but it may still be a nice place to spend the night.

The demand for accommodation is high, this is why another set of rooms are in construction on the other side of the castle. We had the chance to have a look into the rooms as there were no doors yet. Nothing luxurious, but it fits the needs.

There's a terrace for dining in case the weather is appropriate. At the time of our visit, it wasn't open though.

The restaurant is next to the wine shop, it isn't big, so there are no huge events hosted there' but you can serve the necessary meals there.

And finally, the wine shop that serves as ticket selling office as well. This lovely lady is greeting you and explains you how things work. However, there are other interesting things in that shop as well.

20220911_133012a.jpg

As expected, the shop is not an usual one, it's like a small museum with artifacts related to wine and not only.

I've been to a few winery in my life, but have never seen this design and I found it very interesting and appropriate too. What you see on the top shelf is a grinder, that was used in those days. It's a nice vintage piece. On the bottom shelf, two bottle of Jidvei wine.

Jidvei is the name of the village, that is not far from Cetatea de balta, where the castle is situated. Why is Jidvei important? because that's the place where the famous Jidvei wine is made.

Jidvei Group is the largest wine producer in Romania. With a total area of over 2,500 hectares of vines, it owns the largest vineyard in the country and the largest single-owner vineyard in Europe. source

I can only guess, but I suppose this used to be a portable wine barrel.

Whoever the interior designer was here, did a great job.

20220911_133218a.jpg

And we arrived to the most beautiful part. These are the wine types you can buy in the shop. The offer is very tempting and I was thinking of buying a bottle, but the collection of wine I have at home can equal the quantity of one shelf on the photo, so buying another bottle would have been just foolish.

This is the Grigorescu collection, named after the the famous Romanian painter. These colorful bottles were very eye catching.

I´m really impressed by the regularity and quality of these top notch pieces from various interesting places that you post on your blog every day Erika. And it´s even more impressive given the fact that you don´t do Hive full time. Or do you? :)

Oh, what a nice comment my friend! I'm in crypto full time, so Hive is part of that and part of my life. I'm trying to share what I see and enjoy, as we all do 😀 Quality and beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so top notch? It depends who you are asking, but I really appreciate the precious compliment, I feel honored! ❤️

I see. Makes sense now :) I was wondering how it could be possible to churn out these high quality posts every day while still going to work somewhere. But yeah, now I remember how you were writing about trying the (digitally) nomadic lifestyle and that´s something you can only do when you can work 100% online. So you do crypto stuff for living and Hive is a (big, I guess) part of that. Cool :)

You know what they say

Built your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs.

Crypto gives me the freedom I need and if I'm smart and play my cards right, I'm going to have my future assured. But nothing is for free.

Well said :) Good luck reaching your goals and staying free! :)

Thank you, I wish you the same 🙂

Thank you :)

I remembered Hotel Transylvania when I heard the name of the place and saw the castle. Then, I remembered the disney movie Encanto when I saw the rooms.

The name of the place is Cetatea de balta, the region is called Transylvania.

Is the castle the same thing used to portray in the movie hotel Transylvania? Hehe..

I have seen the movie but can't remember the castle, however, I highly doubt it 😂

We don't know.. Maybe 🤣 it's a cartoon movie actually..

I know it's cartoon, that's why I said I highly doubt it as that castle has been created by a software 😀

I've read your previous Bethlen-Haller castle blogs and this is another good feature about it, especially the wines. I love the small church and the good view at the back of it. Such a good land.

Thank you for the nice comment :)

Yes you are right I love going to the mountains and seeing and feeling the natural things,
And it is truly a wonderful place.

It is indeed, one to visit if you're in the area.

Yes of course you are right but unfortunately I am not there I am in Pakistan

#hiveengine #alivechallenge

For me I prefer a very quiet place for a vacation there won't be any distraction from anywhere. And also the collections of those wines are so nice I love the settings I think I will also do like this in my home in future

You can use the idea if you have space at home as it looks good. I'd love it as well.

I will try it out then

Quite a time you spent there
If it was to be me I'll still get one bottle of the jidvei despite my collection at home, at least to have a taste of new wine 🍷

I love your photos and it's quality , thanks for sharing 💕✌️

Thank you! Now I regret not buying one, but I can still buy them in the local wine shops, not sure about the price though. The lady said it's cheaper there than at other places, but you only know after, if it's true or not. However, i don't think they are in the business of misleading people as that's the cheapest trick and the fastest road to nowhere.

It may really be cheaper at that place since it's being produced close to that environ. Because considering transportation, and other factors may cause it to increase in price when it leaves that area

More time ✌️❤️

Exactly! Have a nice evening :)

✌️❤️

What a beautiful place!!

If you don’t have much privacy that couldn’t be so good, but with that view to the church! Not fur the church but the grass and mountains!! It looks like a very calming place.

The shop is also very nice, and I agree with you, those bottles easily catch the attention!!

Great post!! :D

Yeah, you need to decide over privacy or view. However, I think it's still a good place if you want to relax. Apart from the neighbors, no one is going to bother you as tourists are visiting the castle and dining at the restaurant but not in a large group.

I usually like quiet, green and relaxing environments. I have never been a club person, too much noise and people make me want to run away.😂 The place you shared is so beautiful that it is obvious that noble people have lived there before.

I've never been a club person either, but I love both metropolitan cities and green and quiet too. However, if you're tired and want to rest, this is the place, not the city. And I agree, only nobles could afford such a place:)

The castle is indeed very fascinating and, not to mention, beautiful. Is there a waiting list on the rooms, or are they readily available? I can see myself enjoying a stay there...but only as long as the weather is favorable.

This is the link to accommodation in the castle. Prices are in RON, which is the Romanian currency, but to give you an idea, 1euro is close to 5RON.
However, I don't know where to check for those rooms I showed in the photos. Those must be way cheaper as those are of a different category. After reading your question, I went to check the accommodation status. https://castelhaller.ro/rooms-list-view/

Staying in the castle is nice as not many have had the opportunity, however, at those prices 😳... 😂 there are better ways to spend that money. I could see myself spending a few days in the small house, just to rest and enjoy the scenery, have long walks and enjoy the local cuisine.

Bethlen-Haller Castle is awesome, looks like you also were lucky with nice warm weather there. Looking through the photos I have a feeling that people who work in this Castle love it as everything in such great condition, walls nicely painted in white and look in nice contrast to cobble stones. Like the spacious dinning area but also impressive wine exhibition. Such variety of different wine. Hope it is possible to taste wine too before buying :)

The weather was indeed a bonus from mother nature. Imagine visiting a place like this is heavy rain or overcast. Obviously the castle is the same, but the photos would have been terrible.

Indeed some serious money has been spent in order to bring the castle to this condition. I was thinking the same, I mean it's a pleasure to work here, but after a while it is just work as you're doing the same round over and over again. So I'd prefer to be a visitor 😄

You can opt for wine tasting, there are tours that include that as well, but it's not cheap. We kind of know these wines as are available almost everywhere. So we opted for the simple ticket without tasting or lunch.

All are beautiful and eyes catching but this is the part I love most. The wine part. I love the way they colorful and the way they were well arranged. 🥂
