Drawing a unicorn girl (esp/eng)

Un saludo a todos. Hace un tiempo que no les muestro ningún nuevo dibujo, así que ha llegado el momento de hacerlo. En esta ocasión, decidí que es momento de mostrarles un dibujo en técnica tradicional y no digital como suelo acostumbrar, lo he hecho así no por nada en especial, fue cuestión de ánimos e improvisaciones (risas). Sigue leyendo este post para que puedas ver el proceso y contarte un poco sobre cómo me inspiré para crearlo.

This time, I decided it's time to show you a drawing in traditional technique and not digital as I usually do, I did it this way not for anything special, it was a matter of moods and improvisations (laughs). Keep reading this post so you can see the process and tell you a little about how I was inspired to create it.

Bien, todo inició con días en los que me mantuve realmente triste, nada lograba animarme, tenía planes, en verdad muchos planes, ilusiones, ideas, etc., y nada salió como se esperaba, ni siquiera podría decirles que fue todo lo contrario, simplemente sucedió todo lo que no debía suceder. Allí sumida entre pensamientos depresivos, tomé mi cuaderno de siempre y empecé a hacer un boceto, uno de una chica mirando al cielo mientras pensaba.

Well, everything started with days in which I was really sad, nothing could cheer me up, I had plans, in fact many plans, illusions, ideas, etc., and nothing went as expected, I could not even tell you that it was the opposite, it just happened everything that should not happen. There, submerged in depressive thoughts, I took my usual notebook and began to make a sketch, one of a girl looking at the sky while thinking.

En mi mente, esta chica está sentada justo al borde de algún acantilado o algo similar, la brisa sopla fuerte, es de noche y solo la luna y las estrellas iluminan la zona. Mientras avanzaba en mi dibujo, empecé a hacerme preguntas sobre ella “¿quién es?, ¿qué intenta?” y terminé concluyendo que es una chica parte unicornio, parte elfa, que al parecer, recarga energías con la luz de la luna creciente, pero que también necesitaba tiempo para pensar y replantearse las cosas.

Para el boceto empleé un par de lápices de grafito, con el más claro hice toda la base e incluso los detalles y luego con el lápiz un poco más oscuro, repasé las líneas definitivas, puesto que hice muchas líneas que serían innecesarias al final en el boceto original.

In my mind, this girl is sitting right on the edge of some cliff or something similar, the breeze is blowing hard, it's night and only the moon and stars illuminate the area. As I progressed in my drawing, I started asking myself questions about her "who is she, what is she trying to do?" and ended up concluding that she is a part unicorn, part elf girl, who apparently recharges energies with the light of the crescent moon, but who also needed time to think and rethink things.

For the sketch I used a couple of graphite pencils, with the lighter one I did all the base and even the details and then with the slightly darker pencil, I went over the final lines, since I made many lines that would be unnecessary in the end in the original sketch.

Así llegó el momento de empezar a entintar. No hice todo el mismo día, de hecho, estuve enferma esa semana, así que me tomó más tiempo de lo habitual. También tuve que agregarle algo de tinta a mi rapidógrafo, que es lo que uso para entintar, porque ya se sentía un poco seco. Comencé a repasar una vez más las líneas definitivas del dibujo, pero ahora con tinta. Por cierto, mi rapidógrafo es de punta o.4.

So it was time to start inking. I didn't do it all on the same day, in fact, I was sick that week, so it took me longer than usual. I also had to add some ink to my rapidograph, which is what I use for inking, because it was already feeling a bit dry. I started to go over the final lines of the drawing once again, but now with ink. By the way, my rapidograph is an o.4 point.

Una vez estuvieron listos los trazos principales, procedí a agregar el sombreado, éste lo hice con el mismo rapidógrafo, solo que en vez de hacer trazos firmes como los que venía haciendo hasta ahora, los trazos para sombrear son más bien ligeros, de modo que no se vean como un color sólido negro, sino que den espacios en blanco que hagan que las sombras se vean más bien grisáceas.

Once the main strokes were ready, I proceeded to add the shading, which I did with the same rapidograph, but instead of making firm strokes as I had been doing so far, the shading strokes are rather light, so that they do not look like a solid black color, but give white spaces that make the shadows look rather grayish.

El sombreado lo inicié con los dobleces del vestido, principalmente en los pliegues de la falda del mismo. También pinté de negro sólido el corset que porta nuestro personaje, solo dejando unas delgadas líneas en blanco que me servirían como referencia para luego trazar los amarres de la prenda.

I started the shading with the folds of the dress, mainly in the folds of the skirt. I also painted in solid black the corset that our character wears, leaving only a few thin white lines that would serve as a reference to trace the ties of the garment.

Continué haciendo sombras en el resto de la ropa, la piel del rostro y su cabello, fijándome bien en la posición que ocupaba cada uno de los mechones. Finalmente, con un poco de pintura al frío de color blanco, pinté las líneas de los amarres del corset, así como también agregué algunos detalles de luz en algunos lugares que me parecieron que lo necesitaban.

I continued making shadows on the rest of the clothes, the skin of the face and her hair, paying attention to the position of each of the strands. Finally, with some white cold paint, I painted the lines of the corset ties, as well as added some light details in some places that I thought they needed it.
