Plot
The anime introduces us to Satsuki, a girl who has just moved in with her father and younger brother in the town where her recently deceased mother grew up. She starts studying at a school they made right next to the old high school where her mother studied when she was her age. During the course of the first episode we are shown a huge tree that is located in this old high school, a tree that is cut down, thus releasing a huge amount of ghosts that had been captured. Satsuki does not know that her presence and the absence of her mother in this world has caused the seal that kept all these beings from beyond to be broken, causing endless phenomena, apparitions and curses both in the school and in the city. She will now have to find and capture all the ghosts that have been released, again, in order to protect her friends, family and the rest of the town.

Surely if you are a person of culture or an expert or big fan of the horror genre, you will have heard or seen at some point this iconic anime. One of the first anime that was broadcasted in the West after the 2000s and that has terrified and traumatized a whole generation. Those of us who watched this anime at the time realized how rich Japan is in terms of horror stories, since the variety of spirits, ghosts and gods is so great that this anime surely mentioned only the most popular ones. Still, the way it did it was so well done, with a design and style both disturbing and creepy that even to this day you still feel it on your skin every time you watch an episode of this anime. The main plot is not the best we can find in an anime of this style, as the protagonist is the daughter of a ghost hunter who, due to her legacy, has the power to capture and seal these evil spirits. While we see at the beginning a family that is just going through the transition of the passing of her mother, Satsuki decides to live a normal and quiet life. But at school this ends up going wrong as she finds that she is overrun by ghosts. The introduction of each of these terrifying spirits is interesting at best, as it captures well the origin and the clear intention each one has to seek to cause pain and end people's lives. They are beings who have been tormented or who live by causing pain and suffering. Curses are one of those strong cases that make a spirit a dangerous entity for society. Our protagonist, with the help of her friends, decides to confront each and every one of these terrifying beings and capture them. There are cases in which they influence the private life of each one, making them live a martyrdom or making them wish for death, which complicates the task they have to face an evil they do not know well.
Let's remember that we are talking about Japan, a country where their culture is much more different from the one we have on this side of the world. Its traditions, stories and customs make it a country with a very different development from ours, although not entirely, since we can easily familiarize ourselves with the interpretation they have about good and evil. From the beginning of this anime we can notice that the origin of the evil that lies in these beings or ghosts is born from a tortuous life, mistakes or bad decisions that have tormented them completely, leading them to end their lives or the lives of their loved ones. This representation of evil that we see in all these spirits in the form of demons out of hell itself or objects or beings that have both a meaning and a value that is incalculable; is both fantastic and at the same time shocking. This story plays a lot with both the visuals and what each thing, each story, each place or each person represents. A simple misdirected feeling can cause a lifetime of pain and torment. However, in this anime they don't give so much importance to some details that we see about this in each chapter. Moreover, many times we notice how they mix horror or suspense with a bit of comedy that is not bad, but often ends up being unnecessary.

Si bien vemos al principio una familia que apenas está pasando por la transición del fallecimiento de su madre, Satsuki decide vivir una vida normal y tranquila. Pero en la escuela esto termina saliendo mal al ver que está invadida de fantasmas. La introducción de cada uno de estos aterradores espíritus es, como mucho, interesante, ya que captura bien el origen y la clara intención que tiene cada uno de buscar causar dolor y acabar con la vida de la gente. Son seres que han sido atormentados o que viven de causar dolor y sufrimiento. Las maldiciones son de esos casos fuertes que hacen de un espíritu un ente peligroso para la sociedad. Nuestra protagonista, con la ayuda de sus amigos, decide enfrentar a todos y cada uno de estos seres aterradores y así lograr capturarlos. Recordemos que estamos hablando de Japón, un país donde su cultura es mucho más distinta a la que tenemos en este lado del mundo. Sus tradiciones, sus historias y sus costumbres la hacen un país con un desarrollo muy distinto al nuestro, aunque no del todo, ya que podemos familiarizarnos fácilmente con la interpretación que ellos tienen sobre el bien y el mal. Desde el principio de este anime podemos notar que el origen del mal que yace en estos seres o fantasmas nace de una vida tortuosa, errores o malas decisiones que los han atormentado por completo, llevándolos a acabar con sus vidas o con la de sus seres queridos. Esta representación del mal que vemos en todos estos espíritus con forma de demonios salidos del mismo infierno o de objetos o seres que tienen tanto un significado como un valor que es incalculable; es tanto fantástico como a la vez impactante. Esta historia juega mucho tanto con lo visual como con lo que representa cada cosa, cada historia, cada lugar o cada persona. Un simple sentimiento mal dirigido puede ocasionar una vida entera de dolor y tormento. Sin embargo, en este anime no le dan tanta importancia a algunos detalles que vemos sobre esto en cada capítulo. Otherwise, the crooked and too separated eyes, the drawing styles in the main characters or the lack of fluidity in the animation makes it a work that gives much to be desired today, but surely at the time it was something impressive, perhaps. What I must give its deserved value and qualification is to the work in the sound effects and soundtrack that this animated work has. With a combination of sounds and effects that manage to perfectly transmit that terror that they try to show us in each scene, this anime manages to stand out quite well. The soundtrack is also something that currently brings nostalgia and that, with the images and the environments it transmits makes you feel both nostalgia and a feeling of sadness and uneasiness that is difficult to explain. In the end, this anime is simply a classic within the horror genre, a work worth watching and enjoying if you like suspense and the supernatural.
Personally, I give it a rating of 7.5/10 as far as the supernatural horror and suspense genre is concerned.

En cuanto a lo técnico, esperando que el estudio que animó esta serie sea el mismo que llevó a Bleach a la cima del mundo de la animación japonesa, notamos que pudieron haberse esforzado un poco más en este caso. Con una combinación de sonidos y efectos que consiguen transmitir perfectamente ese terror que intentan mostrarnos en cada escena, este anime logra destacarse bastante bien. La banda sonora también es algo que actualmente trae nostalgia y que, con las imágenes y los ambientes que transmite te hace sentir tanto nostalgia como un sentimiento de tristeza e inquietud que es difícil de explicar. Al final, este anime es simplemente un clásico dentro del género de terror, una obra que vale la pena ver y disfrutar si te gusta el suspenso y lo sobrenatural.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de terror sobrenatural y suspenso.
