Once again, a girl on the seashore

Yes, it's true ‒ I painted a pretty similar picture a few months back. (https://ecency.com/hive-174301/@pavelsku/the-threshold-keeper) Same subject, same composition, same approach. But is that a problem? After all, Leonardo da Vinci painted his famous "Madonna of the Rocks" in two versions. Painting the same thing (or something like it) a second time, or even several times over, should mean you're avoiding the mistakes you made before ‒ or at least learning from them ‒ so each new attempt comes out better.

Did it work out that way for me?

Well, honestly, it didn't quite work out that way for Leonardo either. His Paris version from 1486 is generally considered superior to the London version from 1508. In fact, there's reason to think Leonardo didn't even paint that second one himself ‒ one of his students did it under his supervision.

I painted this one myself, but I'm of two minds about it. There are details I handled better this time around ‒ that's the lesson from my earlier mistakes. Still, if I'm being straight about the overall impression, I'd probably lean toward the first version.

Looks like I'm just going to have to paint version three. Or maybe four? When does this end?

Do you also believe that repetition is the path to perfection? I look forward to your comments.

Btw ‒ anyone want to buy a painting for Christmas? 😊
