Lady of the Garden - small artwork

Some weeks ago, when Autumn was at it's peak with it's colourful show, I went hunting with the camera for interesting subjects to photograph. There will be a separate post with those photos.

The Belvedere Palace gardens, are one of my favourite places to go for a walk in the fresh air and sunshine. In a corner the gardens, there are a number of recesses in the wall decorated with statues and then framed with bushes. I happened upon it at just the right time, where the sunlight was shining through the leaves making an interesting pattern of shadows.

This became my inspiration for this latest small painting, "Lady of the Garden", 12 x 17cm, acrylic and oil on card.

The painting was first of all started with acrylics, as this allowed me to work quickly, as well as sealing and protecting the card from the oil paint which then became the finishing layers.

Depending upon the response, I might do more of these small works.

I've been there about a month ago, probably took the same picture too, since I fotographed most of the statues.

You should have let me know Otto. I'm only just around the corner.

I've also photographed many of the statues.

Good thing we have this conversation - I was there October 30th - forgot all about downloading my camera. I also took some pics with my cellphone, so I looked there first and found out the date. So now I am catching up. I usually upload to Flickr, but that will have to wait until I process that stuff.

Did you paint this off a photo that you took? That seems more logical though I prefer my headcanon that you just whipped out your paints on the spot and got to work XD

I worked from a photo I shot. It's more convenient to sit in the studio than to pack up the paints and paint plein air. If I'm going to do that, then I make a day trip out of it for it to be worthwhile.
