This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.
If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.
All the photos in today's post were taken with my mobile phone.
The photos I want to share today have been taken over the last couple of weeks during various walks and outings...from walking in our garden...to a walk at an Orchid show...to a walk in a nature reserve.
In the Garden.
Let's start with a walk in our garden. Well, more than once...lol.
The first photo was during a fresh, early morning stroll through the garden after we had some rain during the night.
Now, join me in an evening walk, picking some flowers to take inside for my wife.
In the one corner of the garden is my wife's favorite lilies.
Indoors
Let's go inside now...
I recently bought this Orchid for my wife as part of her birthday gift.
The next photo is also of one of my wife's favorite plants that she keeps inside. I don't know the English name for it, but you might find it interesting to hear what we call it in Afrikaans. We call them "Gesiggies". "Gesiggies" is the plural of "Gesiggie". The direct translation for "Gesiggie" to English means "Little Face", and looking at the flower, I'm sure you can see where the name comes from.
Orchid Show in Hillcrest
Let's move to a walk we had over the past weekend when we visited an Orchid show in Hillcrest.
There was some form of competition as well, and this display took third prize. At the time when I took this photo, there was quite a gathering of people around the first- and second-place displays and I didn't wait around long enough for them to clear. So, I didn't get photos of them.
Here are some other beautiful orchids on display.
I know that Orchids have roots that grow outside the pot it is planted in. But this one fascinated me, as it wasn't even planted in any soil. It is just placed inside a basket-like container and look how it is growing!
Here are some other colorful displays we also admired.
Cumberland Nature Reserve.
Let's go outdoors again and move to some colorful Aloes as we found them in their natural habitat in the Cumberland Nature Reserve.
Conclusion.
Traveling long distances is not always necessary to enjoy nature's beauty. Often, all you need to do is open the front door and enjoy what is happening right there in your garden.
Then, bring some of that color inside your house and enjoy the beauty even inside your home.
Secondly, be on the lookout for events such as the show we visited and enjoy a little outing without it costing you an arm and a leg. We paid R30.00 per person as an entry fee. We could spend as much time as we wanted walking around and relaxing, enjoying all the displays. Many people were marketing plants and various products related to the theme of the show.
Thirdly, take some time, and get out in nature. Even that doesn't have to be that far away. Our trip to the Cumberland Nature Reserve is an hour's drive from where we stay.
And with that, we come to the end of today's post.
Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!
