How about they explain the gist of their work, or publish it in their posts in human language without code? lol

The main task of witnesses is to actually run the blockchain. So they have to keep the machines up and running and they also have to keep the Hive price up to date and adapt some metrics of the blockchain. Otherwise it's not that much work I believe :-)
