It was a Friday evening and Dele had decided to stop at a restaurant to have an early dinner before heading home. Usually, he would be home getting ready to go clubbing and party with the boys but the week had been a crazy one and all he wanted was to have his dinner and go crash on his bed, the only partying he would be having this weekend would be between him and his bed because he needed all the rest he could get.

Dele was almost halfway done with his food when he heard some screams in the restaurant. All Dele wanted was a quiet dinner but apparently the universe had something else planned. On his kneels was a guy holding a ring in front of a lady who Dele guess to be his soon to be bride. The lady looked more confused than excited and then there was everyone else who were chanting "say yes, say yes". If Dele was a wizard, a lot of people would walk out of that restaurant with their ability to speak, gone.

He tried to endure as he silently prayed for the lady to quickly say yes so that everyone could go back to eating their food and minding their business but what happened next, even Dele didn’t see that coming.

“What is this? I thought we talked about this!” The lady yelled and tried walking away, but the guy wasn’t going to take no for an answer, so he held her hand and that was when she did what almost made Dele’s eyes leave his eye socket. No one saw the slap coming but they all heard it.

The lady has hit her man so hard across the face that he didn’t know when he let go of her hand and she walked away. It turned out she had told him she didn’t want a public proposal but he had gone ahead to do it anyway because according to him, he felt it was going to be romantic.

By the time Dele was done with his food, the guy had left and everyone else was completely focused on their business. Dele was sure there won’t be any chanting happening at the restaurant anytime soon.

sometimes we try in various ways to make someone happy, but not necessarily the way we are liked by people, not necessarily our efforts are taken seriously, even the most painful, not necessarily our struggle is RESPECTED by others.
