It's said that family is not just people who are related to you by blood. Although blood is thicker than water, as they said, blood can, at times, make you wonder what the essence of family is.
I grew up in a large family; I can tell you for free that a large family is fun when there is no strive, but you see, where there is envy, jealousy, and competition is not quite easy, my own family is large with my half-sister and me; we were always on each other's necks. At first, it wasn't like this; we used to love ourselves so much that if one person went out and came back crying, we all went out together to fight the person.

But we were not much in number but we were just four only as kids. We do things together, and My dad indirectly started the strive in us and the competition too.
He will always compare me to her. Look at your younger sister; she is doing so well in school while you're here, just dull. I will always try to console my sister, but my stepmother got wind of the comparison, and that's where the problem started big time.
I don't know what her mother said to her; of course, I was just a kid,; she no longer wanted to play with me, and she yelled at me at any given time. Her mother doesn't want to see me at all. My daddy didn't hide the fact that I was his favorite, and it tore the love we had as siblings apart.
When it became serious, we had to be separated from each other, I was taken to stay with my Dad sister, and she was taken to stay with her mother's elder sister, while my brother was with my mother and my little sister was with my mother's aunt in Lagos.
Separating us didn't go well for me cause I missed my siblings a lot; I found it difficult to stay with my aunt and her family; she wasn't so welcoming, although the kids were good to me.
But that's another large family, with cousins there and my aunt's children, we always try to outshine each other in everything. Honestly, I don't ever want a large family. Another thing, large family or not, I don't want my husband nor me to ever compare our kids; it brings disunity in the family, and it brings grudges and bitterness, especially when the comparison is between the junior and senior.

My ideal family
I had peace when my mother, I, and my brother started staying alone without my father and my half-sisters with their mother.
I will always go for a small family that comprises me, my husband, and my three kids; I don't want my kids to even have a taste of a large family at all, especially one that involves half-siblings. That thing can damage kids and make you feel like there is no love on this earth.
So small family for me, anybody can come visit and go. I love how we all relate now as adults. Although everyone is doing fine, that competition is still there but not as pronounced as before. To me, a small family is a bae

It is very difficult to pick in this context, I grew up in a large family but now I wish to raise a small family because of the economic crisis in my country, a large family is always fun just that I always dodge some house chores then.
That chores, you get to dodge it well as your younger get to do it
I totally understand your experience in a large family and the challenges that comes from such, and I'm wishing you all the best.
Thank you
