Christmas Day is here guys! The day is finally here. However, I wasn’t really looking forward to it because I knew that nothing much was going to come of it. my Christmas days have always been spent the same way; at home. If I end up going out, it would be to visit friends. However, I do well to refrain from going to hotspots because I just dislike the idea of having to jostle with the large number of crowds that will also want to have fun on that day.
So, for me, Christmas Day is always a family day. Christmas even was also a family day for me. I didn’t even leave the house except when I had to go get some things and run some quick chores. I spent everything indoors, chilling with family and doing basically nothing as I’ve taken a break from anything work-related. The only significant movement I made yesterday was at night when I went for Christmas Vigil with my family.
For as long as I can remember, we’ve always been told that vigils don’t replace the main mass. Just because I attend the Christmas vigil doesn’t mean I don’t have to attend the Christmas Day mass as well. Matter of fact, I’m supposed to attend both masses if I want the full spiritual experience. But then, “I get coconut head, I no dae hear word!”
Once I attend the vigil, I know that there is no mass for me the next day. And last night was no different. The mass was slated to begin around nine which is sad. Most vigils begin late in the night, like 10:30 pm. However, this area has been experiencing a lot of security challenges for a few years now and they had to take that into consideration.
Anyway, getting to the church with my family went without a hassle. It was good to finally visit the church after all the time I spent away from it. I saw some old faces that I had left behind and I saw new faces as well. The church had been beautifully decorated to reflect the season. Christmas lights were all over the place, giving off the beauty and charm of the season.
Also, there was this cute display of a manger, it depicted the nativity of Christ. And that was also beautifully decorated with lights and all that. It felt nice to be back in this environment and to worship with these people. It reminded me of a lot of things and it showed me just how far we had all come.
After mass, I had the opportunity to greet many of them. However, I had to keep it brief because my family was waiting for me. It was almost midnight and we needed to get home. However, at that time of the night, and being at the heart of the season, the streets were not as deserted as we had feared. There were people still walking about, lights were still on and shops were still open. So, we could walk happily without having to look over our shoulders.
And that was how Christmas Eve ended for me. I went to bed not long after, and by the time I woke up this morning, my Mom had gone to church once more for the Christmas Day mass. Now, here I am making my post early in the morning so I will have it out of the way before all the goodies begin. Because I know that once we start, it will be really hard to take a break.
I’m still going to spend the day indoors with my family, we have ways of having fun without having to step a foot out of the house. However, tomorrow Boxing Day is the day Sonic The Hedgehog 3 gets to be released in Nigerian cinemas and I’m considering going to watch it. But then, I know that it’s also a festive day and would very well be crowded. I don’t know yet, I guess I’ll have to cross that bridge when I get to it.
As for now, I simply want to enjoy the season and have a good time. That’s not too much to ask, is it?
Merry Christmas my friends, I hope you all have a great one!
