A little birdie and a family braai

On this day of our Durban family holiday, we were preparing to have yet another braai (Whats a South African holiday without a braai every afternoon, right?) I was sat on the couch with my camera in hand, preparing the settings for some impromptu photo taking. While still sat down I captured this photo of the bag of charcoal sitting beside the curtains. It is not often that I see a bag of charcoal as something photogenic, but there was something about the simplicity of the scene before me that caught my eye.

As Ouma and I sat on the couch, a little visitor popped into the open door. A little birdie fluttering with purpose hopped right in.

The ground was littered with rusk crumbs, remnants of our morning coffee and rusk snack that was had outside. The bird wasted no time, happily bouncing around, pecking at the crumbs and chirping in its sweet, tiny voice.

It felt like he was chirping little "thank yous" between every bite he took. I was so happy to have a front row seat to our sweet visitor as I quickly popped on my larger zoom lens to get some better snaps.

Our little visitor was in no hurry to leave, cleaning up every last crumb on the floor. It was such a joy for me to be able to photograph this sweet creature and reminded me to focus on the little things in life. I love watching and photographing birdies but I am not very good at identifying them, so this sweet friend caught my eye and I loved shooting him but I don't actually know what bird he is, I do know he enjoys rusks as much as I do though.

So remember to leave a few crumbs on your mat, you never know what sweet unexpected visitor may fly in!
