Here we are, I am finally paroting what tiktokers and other people on social media about boohoo, starbucks is a bank. How is it a bank you might ask?
Starbucks has an app that lets you fill it with some cash and in return occasionally you get some nice rewards and free starbucks. There’s also a scenario: If a customer forgets that deposited money in a Starbucks account or it never gets used due to some reason, that is known as breakage income.. I haven’t read the terms and conditions about dormancy fees but if you didn’t know yet, breakage income is eventually owned by the company. Can you imagine if a hundred if not a million people left their money there?
The thing is, coffee is also a form of investment and more than just liquid you consume daily. Some say that it is the second-most-traded commodity in the world and there are about three ways to invest in coffee, including coffee ETFs. As an example, Starbucks is also a publicly traded stock that these days you can purchase from anywhere. At the moment of writing this, Starbucks or SBUX is traded for $97.95.
So do you still want to be just as a consumer or learn to make profit at the same time?
I personally have my fair share of utilising starbucks cards. It’s very convenient and there are days when I just can't get food and coffee for free. They also didn’t require any KYC, especially when you get the card with cash. Although using that method, it’s a bit difficult tracking the free stuff. At the same time, since I got into stocks, I also got myself SBUX. Now, I am also trying to learn about coffee as commodity trading. The thing is, getting into these isn’t as easy as it was with crypto but I am keen to learn.
Anyway, I think this post isn’t complete without a bit of coffee review!
The other day, I got a Starbucks Christmas seasonal menu. It was crunch toffee latte which was nutty. In Indonesia they have two options, the one I tried and also peppermint mocha. In my coffee, I also opt for oat milk instead of regular milk. I find that it adds more unique flavour to the coffee. I think because oat milk is more subtle, it also does not overpower the coffee. I generally choose specialty coffee of the day too instead of going with their regular selection. Since often different branches use different coffee, I notice that they use dark roast and keep the medium roast as specials. I am not quite fond of Starbucks dark roast which is also another reason why I choose their specials as they always have medium roast, freshly grinded too. That’s all about this review, see you in my next one when I tried something new from their selection!

Well.. Im kinda surprised that a single share is under $100... Worth investing in actually don't you think?
Not a financial advise but it's worth it 😄 from what I know, outside the US they are opening more stores too.
Yeah.. Im in South Africa and they opened a few here in the last 5 years as well..
Laughs.. Yeah I know.. But id rather biy more hive 😅😅... Can get 250+ hive for a 100 US now, 😎😎
And for this particular reason, I refuse to get an app. I find it so bizarre! Although Starbucks is my favourite, and I go there every week. I would probs have many freebies by now. 😅
😂 you'd have a lot of freebies by now! I think they also roll out many during end year as well.
My boss mentioned this to me a few days ago as she is a regular customer in Starbucks. She just claimed her planner 😁. She's into stocks too, as expected since she is a CPA .
As for me , I find SB coffee good, too strong and would make you awake the whole day😃.
Though I seldom purchase, it was kinda expensive 🤣
I am on my way claiming the planner! I think I'd have to buy something daily hahaha before I can claim them. I make my own coffee using starbucks beans, much cheaper too!
I thought Starbucks is just plainly coffee. This is my new discovery. You can put money in it as well. Thanks for sharing.
Haha no, it's more than just coffee!
That's interesting. I never thought of it that way. Actually I didn't know that Starbucks was publicly traded either. Good to know
They are, some other coffee companies are also publicly traded.
I haven't had Starbucks since I left the Philippines. I'll have to see where in Jamaica Starbucks is located.
I never shop there regularly enough to consider getting loyalty cards though.
Yes, there are not much benefits to that other than the occasional freebies.
Dark roast is not for everyone, as there is no longer a Starbucks in my city, I kind of miss them, but to be honest their seasonal specials were the best they offered, at least in my eyes, big hug and lovely memory, I kind of find it weird that if a company does "Banking" people "like it" and if crypto does it, it is outlaw and savage...
What happened to Starbucks in your city? hahaha yeah it's weird isn't it? I can imagine them getting money from people who forget the have money inside the app, the card, etc.
Venezuela happened, basically either government bans something or it leaves the country due the nonsensical levels of inflation, I think the Maracaibo one just close their doors out of inflation, but heck if I know. Left over money of a lot of people even if cents, in the long run would be millions.
I also have that app and actually, I have a reward that I haven't used yet.
TBH I haven't explored much the app other than using it for buying my drinks and viewing the latest updates from SB. 😂
I think there's a toffee drink here too, I'll have to confirm but if they do, I'll try it with the oat milk. I usually convert my milk to almond milk but lemme try that oat milk even once. 😉
You should use the rewards, it's somehow freebies🤣 I can even treat my friends with my freebies hehe. Also, I used to order it with almond milk but since I am avoiding anything nutty and milk, I use oats.
Starbucks is smart to capitalize on breakage to gain extra profit!
A lot of fintech also operates that way. Unless we are attentive, we wouldn't know!
Wow how interesting I did not know about this news of starbuks, I would be a loyal customer there not only because I love coffee but because it would help me with my finances XD, I think that in my country there is not this coffee chain, but it would be interesting to learn a little of this, thanks to your publication I will study it if only to know how it works, I have not tried coffee with oat milk I have only done it with normal milk, I will see if I expand my variety to learn different ways to drink coffee, see you soon.
It would be nice if there's a coffee chain that also offers more benefits and rewards in your country then. If you can find oat milk or soy, you could try it just for the taste. They add more flavors to coffee especially if you like latte.
Loved the cookie 😍.
