Projecting the Ibibio Culture through PhotographyGreetings friends, we're still in the new year and I'll like to say a Happy New Year to you and your lovely family. It's another #pobphotocontest, although my first ever involvement in this contest. This contest is hosted by @friendlymoose and I'll use this medium to appreciate this kind gesture. My entry for this photo contest will be centred on and the way it's transferred to the younger generation. I believe that culture is important to every people on planet earth. Hope you'll enjoy my entry. Follow me in this gradual process. Once again greetings from @salvadornkpara.
Culture they say is the totality and the way of life of a people. Culture gives everyone the means of identity and the shoulder to lean on. The symbols of cultures are evident in their cultural heritage and displays. This cultural display could be in the areas of traditional dance and wrestling championships between one community and the other or within the same community.
Projecting the Ibibio Cultural Festival in Photographic Display
The Ibibio people are the inhabitants of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and they speak the Ibibio language. The photos in the images above and below are made up of cultural dance team from the Ibibio extraction. The attire clearly portrays the embodiment of Ibibio culture. This photographs were taken during the Ibibio Cultural Festival for Middle and High schools students across Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
For cultural festival to be complete there must be the provision of local drums. The drums are made up with animal skins and wood from the Ibibio forest. Drumming and dancing are usually the two sides of a coin.
Finally, it was an exciting time with the kids as they exhibit their cultural heritage in form of cultural dance. What does culture really mean to you?
