RE: How I Almost Threw Away My HIVE Keys - And What Saved The Day

in Proof of Brain3 years ago

Oh I feel your pain. Do you remember what community you used to create your Hive account, like Splinterlands, Ecency, PeadkD? They might be able to help you on Discord. At least know they will try hard to do so. And, I am sure you have checked this so no offense intended, but sometimes popup or privacy blockers will prevent sites from accessing your hive login. Let me know if you need invites to any Discord channels, but I am sure you can find them on the main pages for the community you joined Hive with

Thank you for your reply. What I don't know is this: how do you access your active key or owner key? Because there is a button which says reveal but when I click it it asks me to log in again and then it does the same thing no matter how many times I do it. When I opened my account in 2017 I used steemit.

It seems that I have access to the private posting key That's why I'm able to use this account. Since we were encouraged to never use the important keys if I didn't use the account enough for years all I remember is this. And so the protection became the very problem. It's almost as if what I was trying to avoid became guaranteed. Because if I would save the private owner key now I would have my account. So to protect myself not to get my keys stolen I lost them. That's an interesting paradox.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You have been here longer than me, so I suspect what you are running into is way beyond what I know. I am less than 1 year in here. I use Keychain and onboarded through Ecency, so as long as I was logged into Keychain I could reveal my active, posting, and memo key (not owner), and as long as I had my Ecency password, I could reveal all four keys (not master password). Not sure if that helps, but I am sure someone has run into your issue before on Steem since it has been around so long. If I think of anything I will reply back here. Good luck!

I managed to solve it. I loged in and recovered it through steemit. Once again, thank you for trying to help.

yay! I am happy for your good news!! :)
