STORY TIME // My Cleaning Activity For Today Jan 7

I met Antonia at a wedding ceremony. She was well behaved; the best amongst all the ladies there. She was dressed in a yellow gown which fell down to her knees.
From where I sat, I kept my eyes permanently hooked on her. The manner at which she did her things made me want to talk with her but I couldn’t. I was the best man at my friend’s wedding. How could I get up to meet her when I was supposed to be playing a role? I couldn’t do just that, so I pinned myself to the chair and continued to admire her from a distance.
When my friend, the groom, returned from the dance floor, I asked if he knew the lady.
“No,” he shook his head. “This is the very first time I will be meeting her. I will ask my wife later.” He told me.
After the wedding reception was over and people began to file out of the hall in ones and twos, I saw her heading into a red Toyota. I quickly hurried to her. The driver was just about to start the engine when I tapped on the pane of the vehicle.
“Hello sister, the bride wants to see you.” I lied.
I could see the palpable surprise look on her face.
“Me?” she pointed at her chest.
“Yes,” I nodded. “You..”
She got out of the car and followed me to where I parked my car. I wonder what was playing in her mind that day.
“Please,” I said when we had reached where I parked my BMW. “Let me have the privilege of taking you home. Please, I beg you in the name of God. No one is calling you.”
She smiled and pointed at the red Toyota; “What should I tell them?”
I said she should just tell them anything. “Please ride with me. I have a very important thing I want to discuss with you.”
She regarded me closely for a while and finally heaved; “Let me fetch my bag.”
I watched her go. There I stood praying and wishing that she return to me. She spoke with the driver of the Toyota car and one of the ladies in the car passed her handbag to her. My heart began to pound when I saw her walking back to me. The Toyota zoomed off and I heaved another sigh.
She climbed into the passenger seat and without hesitating I put my hand on the wheel and off we drove out of sight.
We went to an eatery where we both talked for a very long time. I told her that I had always wanted to marry before my friend Robert but had found it very difficult meeting the right woman.
“Have you seen the right woman now?” she asked smiling rather mischievously.
“Yes,” I inclined. “I just found you Antonia and I am glad I saw you today.”
She appeared to be glad I said that and I could see it in her eyes. We talked throughout that day. We talked about everything under the sun. She told me about how her younger sisters were all married but that she chose to pursues her education. She had graduated from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University where she studied theatre arts.
“I am now almost done with my masters here in Uni Ben,” she said.
I was glad to hear that. Never before had I also wished to marry a woman who wasn’t a graduate. I told Antonia that I loved her from the very moment I sighted her and would wish that we took the relationship serious.
“Relationship?” she queried. “You talk as if you and I have known each other all our lives.”
We both laughed over that.
It was not until eight o’clock that evening that we both left the eatery. By the time we were back in the car, chemistry stronger than we both had imagined had been built.
From that day, a relationship kicked off. All my friends were happy that at last I had found a woman whom I loved so much. Antonia and I travelled to my village three months later and my mother was glad that I found a girl as beautiful as she.
