A Traditional Christmas: Food, Family, and Fun

Ahhh, Christmas!

Christmas Day is a worldwide sensation, celebrated joyously across the globe. My Christmas celebration this year—or should I say last year—was truly fun and exciting!

The day began with my mum waking us up early in the morning to get ready for church. Attending the Christmas service is a yearly tradition in our family. One thing I secretly love about going to church on Christmas Day—though it’s probably not the main reason I should be excited about it—is getting to show off my Christmas clothes and hairstyle. It’s also a great opportunity to see what my friends are wearing. We always end up complimenting each other, which adds to the festive cheer.

The church service was fun but thankfully short, as we were eager to continue our celebration and head out for some fun.

After church, the real hustle began. My mum was busy cooking, which meant I was automatically busy too, running errands and helping prepare things. We were making food to share with our neighbors—a cherished holiday tradition in our community. Although the errands were tiring, they were worth it because the enjoyment that followed made up for everything. I made sure I got the biggest plate of rice and chicken for myself!

After the well-deserved meal, I did what anyone would do—I fell asleep. The nap was amazing, but I had already planned to go out with my little cousins and my mum after lunch. Unfortunately, my nap lasted too long, and they left without me!

When they returned, my initial annoyance vanished the moment I saw their bags of goodies. However, my peace disappeared too, as my cousins wouldn’t stop bragging about all the fun they had. They talked endlessly about playing in the bouncing castle, riding toy cars, and getting their faces painted. Of course, they insisted I take pictures of their painted faces because my mum’s phone had died during their outing.

While they shared their adventures, my main focus was on the nylon bag of goodies. It didn’t disappoint, although I was slightly let down by the chocolate-flavored ice cream they brought back—I’m not a fan. I wished I had gone with them! Still, they made up for it by bringing my favorite drink, Nutri Milk, along with two loaves of bread and other treats.

In the end, this was how I spent my Christmas. I didn’t visit the most glamorous or exciting places, but I had amazing food, great sleep, and quality time with my family. Sometimes, it’s not about where you celebrate but who you celebrate with. That’s what truly matters, and that’s what Christmas is all about.

hehehe. Christmas is always like this. I remember going around to share food to our neighbors. My mom wasn’t even considering the fact that I’m a man now. 😅😅😅
