Last year was my first year of ever having bees and the first year of being on the new homestead! It’s become one of my favorite places to hang out and just watch my bees do their thing.
I poured a lot of time and love into the two hives only to have one destroyed by not only a bee attack but the inside of the hive looked like a nightmare. The second and third picture show what I found in that hive after opening it up.
This was the hive that was attacked less, I saw some bees when things started to heat up here, however we got another really bad cold snap quickly and after that I never saw any bees again from this hive. The reason why I waited to inspect it was you don’t want to be opening the hives often as it can cause temperature changes and moisture issues.
What I’m grateful for now is one hive living and thriving, the flowers, bushes and trees now coming into bloom watching the bees starting to collect pollen already and bring it back to the hive.
This year I decided to construct another bee bench which you can check out in another blog post I did called DIY Beehive Stand This will allow me to now have two stands with two hives on each as I’ll be getting three new hives this year!
The Gubba Homestead will now have a total of 4 bee hives producing lots of delicious honey!

I love how a little setback makes for lessons learned and inspiration to do even more! Great how you tell the story to not only entertain, but spread the knowledge you gain and inspire people to start homesteading themselves!
I may have to pick up some extra materials and add this to the Pickleman Family Garden this year!
You go!
Do bees give you a buzz?
Yes! I love the energy they give off 🐝
It's good they bee keeping you buzy.
This is awesome! Wish I had the space to keep bees too. Hopefully, these ones get along without any other attacks though. Good luck!
Thank you Bruce!
Yayy!! 🐝🐝🐝
Winter's out so now the work can continue in earnest. You are doing humanity, in general, a huge favor. Did I say that last time? Anyways, sounds cheesy, but it's the truth.
Love and respect. 🍻
sweet honey
