Improve your performance in the Arena

Hi! After our last post about using Katana, today we want to remind you some very basic, simple tips you should keep in mind whenever you are about to battle in Axie Infinity. You can find the original version of this post in Spanish on our website. As in the previous article, be ready to read for a while, and apologies for the English level.

Strategy

You are going nowhere if you don't have your own strategy. You can have a first glance of your opponent team in the loading screen, and you should take some time in the first turn to study the Axies your rival has. Assessing which is the most dangerous Axie to your team and how to eliminate it can help you make a roadmap. Are you playing with birds and aquas? The (probably) plant or reptile in the front could be your nightmare. There is an offensive backdoor you can reach? Maybe that's where your efforts should go. The final result will depend of many variables, such as the cards you draw, the energies you can keep, crits happening and,of course, luck. What we are trying to say here is, stablish some priorities and stick to the plan.

Each Axie has their job

This should be the first lesson for any scholar. Do not try to build a master of none team. Tanks are there to give you the time to draw cards and energies. Your most offensive Axie is probably better off atacking with huge combos. The third Axie? Whatever job you give it, but be consistent. When you gain experience and learn the mechanics of the game you can experiment and have builds that can perform well front or back, but whenever that is not possible, know what your Axie is good at and take advantage of it.

Predict your rival's moves

There is always uncertainty, but you can predict what is going to happen in the next play. There is a high chance your rival doesn't use all their energies i the first turn. If you can, go and steal some. You should expect that their strongest Axie doesn't attack until the 3rd round, after collecting energies and good cards. If you can take it down before that happens, go for it. If they didn't use any cards in the previous turn, get ready for a nasty combo (or two).

Counting cards and energy

We could debate here which is the best way to do it, but even if you just try to keep track mentally, you will already be doing something. Keep track of the energies your rival has to know if it's wise to spend energies on the most vulnerable Axie of your team or if shielding up is a good idea. Or to know if they will throw a killer combo next round or just be able to use two cards...
Counting cards it's almost the same. Look at the last combo your rival used, it's probably not happening again soon (unless there are fewer Axies left on their side). If they just protected with a lot of shield, that's probably not happening again next round. As in the previous section, try to assess what is happening next and make the best out of it.

Patience

You are almost there. Patience is key to success. Don't rush your decisions. Depending on the situation you find yourself, it might be wiser to wait until the next turn to have better cards and more energy. Going back to the first section of the article, if you are able to draw a plan and stick to it, even if you end up losing you will know you did your best, and you will be able to learn something for the next match. If you just play desperately, there is no takeaway from the loss.
