Have you ever thought about how people know if an animal has a happy face or a sad face? I ask myself this question because many times I see news on Twitter or Facebook in which there are images of some animals that are on the street or that are in stables for example, and that people think they are not in the best conditions. Then I always read comments like: How sad is his face has an attitude of a depressed animal, and things like that, then the question came to me when I saw these pictures that I took a few weeks ago.
If I think the same as everyone else when I see the pictures of the animals I would probably feel that this pair of calves are thinking inside them: oh no here comes the monster again with his camera, once again he is going to take pictures of us or something like that, they look bored, I don't see a sad face, I see them looking bored, like annoyed, and in a certain way a little grumpy because I'm there.
So, how can we tell that an animal is sad? For example in these cows I can see that they are a little hungry or that they are a little malnourished by how we can see the bones of their skeleton, but even though they are in the middle of the day under the intense sunlight I don't think they are having such a bad time, because as we can see in the background of the photograph there are trees that create a beautiful refreshing shade for this situation, and yet the cows don't move in the shade, they prefer to be in direct sunlight, so do you really think they are sad.
I live in a small town that is growing, and I see that this creates quite a few conflicts with the new and modern living conditions, compared to the old ranch style life, some people have even started little campaigns trying to take their cows away from the cattle ranchers or trying to make them look bad because they have their cows under the open sky, because they don't have something like a spa or something like that, so I don't know, cows have lived for many, many years, many centuries like that, and they have never died because they don't have the conditions that we as humans now want them to have after humanizing the animals.
I don't want this to be taken badly as if I were an animal abuser or as if I didn't care, of course I care, of course I know that animals have rights, of course I know that they have to have good living conditions regardless of whether they are destined for human consumption.
Actually what I want to know is if you have a couple of photographs in which you can show me the happy face of an animal and the sad face of an animal, the truth is that I would be very grateful because there are some aspects that I don't delve into so easily.
So if you have a picture that can show me a happy face and a sad face of any animal, it would be great if you could show it here in the comments.
