Every now and then there's a flurry of new people posting in the community that are not quite aware of what we expect, so we post a reminder post to help them out. This isn't meant as a criticism for people who aren't intentionally doing the wrong thing, but a reminder - some ground rules set a good foundation for a smooth and good experience in our wonderful community.
Post Length
Whilst we make exceptions, we prefer a minimum of 300 words.
Many communities ask for longer, and after chatting to many members of the community who thought 300 words or more was appropriate, we went for this number.
In short (haha) effort gets reward. We don't tend to mute immediately and give fair warning, and if you post a shorter post now and then we're not that fussed - but if you're repeatedly doing short form, we highly encourage you to post on SNAPS.
Short, one - three sentences posts will be muted - they should be in Snaps, Waves or any of the other short form interaces on Hive.
Of course, sometimes we need to make shorter posts from the community account - news, polls, and so on in our day to day running of the community, which is our prerogative. We'll try to keep those to SNAPS as much as possible, but reserve the right to post shorter posts if needed.
AI and Plagiarism
There's not a single person in the world that doesn't know stealing is wrong, so your content has to be original or we'll mute you. And we're pretty good at spotting AI writing too - now that's not original either. We get it when AI is used to correct, aid grammar, and so on - but totally AI content is out. Human effort gets rewarded.
English is Preferred
We love our international gardeners, but we're also time poor - we don't want to translate your post or spend time searching for English amongst Spanish, German, or otherwise. If you want to make it dual language, write in English first, then your own language. We don't mind if the grammar isn't quite right - we just want your heart and soul. There's a lot of international gardeners posting in the community and we value their experiences and stories very much!
Photographs
It takes a lot of effort to scroll through a hundred photos and it's boring to see one plant through ten different images. Unless it's a before and after shot, keep it to one photograph per plant and be selective about your photographs. Collages are welcome.
Snaps
Peakd platform. It's just like Twitter or Instagram threads. We also look for the #hivegarden and #gardening tags on Snaps. You'll find this on the
Don't be a 🍆
We know it's not always easy to accept community guidelines, but we ask you to be gracious about it as being an admin for a Hive community can be a difficult job. Discussing politely can result in a much nicer resolution than being reactionary. Remember the admin team is just trying to help and support you and the interests of the community.
Please be kind to others and be a good human.
Above all.... remember that genuine community involvement and orginality is appreciated. We're forgiving - but we can't tolerate spam or abuse because we want to make our community a good place for everyone.
Happy Gardening!
We support gardening, homesteading, cannabis growers, permaculture and other garden related content. Delegations to the curation account, @gardenhive, are welcome! Keep an eye out for our weekly writing prompts and our monthly #gardenjournal challenge on the 1st of each month.
I notice you took effort to write this one of the friendliest guidelines I’ve read. This kind of friendliness I like about gardeners. I’m happy to be in the community 🥰
Have a nice weekend, Hive Garden!
Aw thank you. We love our community. We expect people to do the right thing but a rule break here and there isn't the end of the world. It's only when people are consistently doing the wrong thing that we get a bit grumpy 😁🙏
