Hello, all of my friends of the Hive Universe. How are you all? I hope you are all well by the grace of the Almighty. Today I want to talk about my growing spinach microgreens.
Recently I learned about microgreens. Microgreens contain more nutritious than fully grown vegetables. It contains 4–40 times more nutrients. These microgreens are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and so on.
I bought this spinach seed from Tongi market. Then I went back home and put those seeds in the water for soaking.
Recently, this semester, I have been doing a seed science and technology course. In this course, I learn many things about seeds. One of them is a method of seed coat breaking.
This method is the sock of seeds in the water.
There are two types of dormancy
- Primary dormancy
- Secondary dormancy
Under primary dormancy, there are many types of dormancy. One of them is physical dormancy.
Physical dormancy is also called exogenous dormancy. It is caused by seed coat. The process of breaking or weakening the seed coat helps the seed absorb water and gases to start germinating.
Scarification has two types
- Mechanical scarification
- Chemical scarification
Mechanical scarification is physically breaking or damaging the seed coat in various ways, like rubbing the seeds, nicking, or cutting the seed coat by using a sharp project.
Chemical scarification: In this process strong acid or other chemicals to soften, dissolve, or break down the seed coat. Some acids, like sulfuric acid, concentrate nitric acid and also use potassium nitrate.
So, here, the easy way for me then was soaking seeds in water. So, I soak the seeds in water, and I soak those seeds for 24 hours. Soak time depends on the type of seed and also seed variety.
After 24 hours I put them in the soil. I planted them in three places. One was in a plant pot, the second was in my yogurt pot, and the third was in my water container breaking part. As you know my clay water container was broken.
Every day, when I wake up, first I freshen myself, then I go to the balcony to see my crop. When I see them, I feel happy and get energy. One day I came to my home. I was so tired and was thinking I don’t do anything now. I freshened myself and then slept. But when I remember I have to give water to my crop. Then I went to my balcony and gave them water, then I cleaned my balcony and my room also. After that, I also cooked for myself. Then I thought what was I thought, and I did everything. They give me the energy to live in a good way.
Every day, in my meal I try to add some microgreens. It has so many benefits some are like
- It helps to get healthy skin.
- It improves digestive health.
- It helps to manage type two diabetes.
- It also helps to prevent cancer and so on
I finished my plant pot spinach microgreens. Now eating from another pot. At first, in my plant pot, I planted a holy basil plant. But it doesn't make it. So, later I was sowing spinach seed.
