Saying Goodbye: My Grandma's Funeral in Oboir, Delta State

At the end of 2024, my family and I came together to say goodbye to an incredible woman—my grandma. Losing her was tough. It left a big empty space in our hearts. Still, we found comfort knowing she was finally at peace.

Our farewell journey kicked off on December 30, 2024. We held a wake-keep ceremony. This was our chance to come together and share stories about her. We laughed and cried as we remembered the good times. Hearing her voice echo in our minds brought back memories of the lessons she taught us.

The next day, December 31, 2024, was the day we would bury her. We got up early to go to the funeral home and pick up her body. The ambulance was decorated with flowers and ribbons. It was a sight that reminded us of the sadness of the day. As we followed the ambulance, I felt a deep respect for the woman who meant so much to us and so many others.

The burial took place in Oboir, Delta State, in the Aniocha North area. The peaceful setting around us felt just right for this moment. Surrounded by family and friends at the gravesite, I felt a sense of closure. It was hard, but we knew she was finally resting.

The ceremony was a touching tribute to my grandma's life. Everyone shared kind words about her. The prayers and songs reminded us of her love, kindness, and how giving she was. When it was time to say our final goodbyes, I felt thankful for all the time we had with her. She left us with many lessons.

Thanks to our family, friends, and community, the burial went smoothly. After the ceremony, we went back home. We were tired, but there was a calmness in our hearts. I knew my grandma's spirit would live on through us.

As the clock hit midnight, marking the start of a new year, a sense of hope washed over me. My grandma might be gone, but her memory would stay with us. We would carry her love forward into the future.

Rest in peace, Grandma. Your love will always be with us.
