BMW and Triumph may make top of the line motorcycles, but those brands are known for their automobiles. Honda is just as famous as Harley-Davidson, but it is known worldwide as an engineering company. Other brands are just as respected as Harley-Davidson, including Indian (US), Yamaha and Kawasaki (JP), Ducati (IT), and Royal Enfield (UK).

However, Harley-Davidson is as much a lifestyle company as it is a motorcycle company. How many motorcycle riders do you know live The Harley Lifestyle, or get various forms of the Harley-Davidson logos tattooed on them? Even among its peers in motorcycle culture, it's my opinion that Harley-Davidson stands alone in this regard.

You are a member of a special band of brothers and sisters. You appreciate those moments you're riding not to break some speed record or to show off your mastery of the steel horse you ride, but rather to enjoy a degree of freedom you can't feel by driving a car, even at maximum speed on the autobahn. It may be a few months before you can ide your Harley again, but when you resume, it will be as if you never stopped.
