Hi all, welcome to my #Taco-Tuesdays post. It's a routine foodie post I make on every Tuesday in #freecompliments community. So It's not only about Taco, but it's all about foods!!! So here what we have today:
PISCOK!!! It stands for Pisang Coklat, or in english it is Chocolate Banana. For some people this looks a bit weird, doesn't it? They do not look like a banana at all. Actually it is a Chocolate Banana Spring Roll, because they put chocolate and banana inside a spring roll skin, wrap it, then deep fried it.
If you ask me whether Piscok is actually a desert or an appetizer, honestly I could not answer that at all. A banana and a chocolate should be a desert right? but they could increase your appetite if you eat them in small volume, I mean half piece or one piece only. Too much eating this will make you fell satiety because this is actually a calorie bomb. So be mindful when you eat Piscok.
Nowadays Piscok comes with a lot of variation, the inside or filling is no longer Banana and Chocolate only. Some use cheese, palm sugar, additional fruits such as strawberry, and many more. Some replace the skin from spring roll skin to crepes. Well anything goes, for the sake of great taste!! they don't bother for the pisang and coklat anymore...
Anyway, there is a similar food with Piscok, it's called as Turon, from Philippine. I think those two are actually the same, the difference come from the local taste preference.
Ok let's check my Piscok Now...
GETTING MY PISCOK
People here do not describe piscok as desert or appetizer, for them Piscok is a cheap snack. Although it is cheap, not many people like Piscok. They prefer to go with Gorengan or fried stuffs.
Most Piscok are sold by small hawker or street food cart. Look above, that's the card I have been looking for. I decided to get my Piscok from that seller
They put those Piscok in the cart like this. Those Piscok are arranged by their filling or taste. This guy was selling piscok with these variants : Banana with Chocolate, Banana with cheese, Banana with Cheese and Chocolate, Banana With Black Sticky rice, Banana With Mung Beans, Pineapple (no banana), and Jack Fruits.
See, they sell Piscok that doesn't have any Banana and chocolate at all lol
I like this guy, he keeps his cart clean and neat. Most seller do not pay attention to any clean and hygienic issues. He uses food tongs too, not using bare hands or some plastic or tissue to cover his hand.
But what can I expect anyway? It's a cheap food, nothing fancy from it.
Ok here's my Piscok or Choco Banana. I ordered the original taste, Choco banana. He put them in a plastic bag.
This somehow reminds me about #cleanplanet. But I won't get any vote from them, because I am not throwing this to some garbage bean
I have these 6 Piscok for 10.000 Rupiah, or in Dollar they are at this now:
It's not the cheapest, but it's still very cheap. I can not eat them all alone.
CLOSER TO PISCOK
I buy Piscok not only for myself, I usually share it in living room or buy it during special occasion such as seeing Live Soccer together with other family member.
I have said above that this is a calorie bomb, but I will show you closer now that this is actually a true Junk Food... high calorie, high sugar, high oil content, deep fried which made most nutrition gone, and many more.
Of course Junk Food is definitely tasty, so once a while it's ok to have this kind of food, despite being a junk one, it is actually a great comfort food.
This is how it looks when we get closer. a similar to spring roll and Crepes, right?
This is inside the Piscok Skin. They do not use a whole banana there, they split it in half.
Piscok size came in vary, they do not have proper sizing. So sometime you get a big one, some are smaller. This is the biggest one, I have split it in half.
Anyway that's all I can say about Piscok or Choco Banana. Do you think this one look good or a big Nay one? I know some other regions often see some of Asian food as a bizzare one or maybe Exotic is a better wording for it. Plese share your thought below on comment section, and thank you for coming by here
