Hello to everyone around here. I hope you are well and have enjoyed this carnival break. In this new opportunity I come to tell you about my second experience organizing an artistic event and at the same time a fashion show.
Hola a todos por aquí. Espero se encuentren bien y hayan disfrutado de este asueto de carnaval. En esta nueva oportunidad les vengo a contar mí segunda -experiencia organizando un evento artístico y a la vez desfile de moda.
The event in question is called Jewel City and is an artistic call that aims to think the city of Valencia and transform it into a precious artistic object, in this case in a portable jewel. This idea was conceived by my husband who is a goldsmith and myself, with the aim of bringing us closer to our city of Valencia through artistic practice. To get closer to our identity values, to our architectural heritage, to our cultural heritage, to the nature that surrounds us and to see ourselves as a fundamental part of a living organism such as cities are.
El evento en cuestión se llama Ciudad Joya y es una convocatoria artística que tiene como objetivo pensar la ciudad de Valencia y transformarla en un precioso objeto artístico, en este caso en una joya portable. Esta idea fue concebida por mi esposo que es orfebre y mi persona, con el objetivo de acercarnos a nuestra ciudad de Valencia a través de la práctica artística. Acercarnos a nuestros valores de identidad, a nuestra herencia arquitectónica, a nuestro acervo cultural, a la naturaleza que nos rodea y vernos a nosotros mismos como parte fundamental de un organismo viviente como lo son las ciudades.
Based on this, we came to the conclusion that contemporary jewelry is open to the fact that the discourse is imposed on the material. The purpose of this project is to integrate the collective memory of the city and give the participants the possibility, from each discourse, to demonstrate their personal vision of this space, fusing city and body. It was an open call to all creators who wanted to bring their ideas about the city of Valencia to different expressive media. The techniques and materials were free, the pieces had to be of a portable nature such as jewelry, necklace, ring, earrings, bracelet, pin, to mention some options.
Basados en esto, llegamos a la conclusión de que la joyería contemporánea está abierta a que el discurso se imponga al material. La finalidad de este proyecto es integrar la memoria colectiva de la ciudad y dar a los participantes la posibilidad, desde cada discurso demostrar su visión personal de este espacio, fusionando ciudad y cuerpo. Fue una convocatoria abierta a todos los creadores que quisieran llevar sus ideas sobre la ciudad de Valencia a los diferentes soportes expresivos. Las técnicas y los materiales eran libres, las piezas debían ser de carácter portable como joyas, collar, anillo, zarcillos, brazalete, prendedor, por mencionar algunas opciones.
They had to be inspired by the city of Valencia, as it was the city where the exhibition was held and the intention was to revalue, reinterpret and integrate with the local daily life. The exhibition had creative axes which delimit the theme to be developed by the participating artists for the elaboration of the pieces. These axes were Nature: flora and fauna native to the region, Architecture: Urban, historical heritage, and modern. All with the inspiration of the city of Valencia.
In the fashion show and subsequent exhibition, 33 artists participated, including jewelers, ceramists, graphic designers, sculptors and visual artists, the parade was held in the garden of a restaurant and was a success because we had a large number of chairs arranged for the public and were insufficient. But in spite of that, the public liked the event very much.
Se debían inspirar en la Ciudad de Valencia, por ser la ciudad de la ejecución de la muestra y la intensión de revalorizar, reinterpretar e integrar con el quehacer cotidiano local. La exposición conto con ejes creativos los cuales delimitan la temática a desarrollar por los artistas participantes para la elaboración de las piezas. Estos ejes eran Naturaleza: flora y fauna autóctona de la región, Arquitectura: Urbana, acervo histórico, y moderna. Todo con la inspiración de la ciudad de Valencia.
En el desfile y posterior muestra expositiva, participaron 33 artistas, entre los que se encontraban joyeros, ceramistas, diseñadores gráficos, escultores y artistas visuales, el desfile se llevó a cabo en el jardín de un restaurant y fue todo un éxito ya que teníamos un gran número de sillas dispuestas para el público y fueron insuficientes. Pero a pesar de eso al público, le gustó mucho ese evento.
I not only participated as an organizer, but also as an artist and I loved the experience of making a jewel with my plastic proposal, in fact since that event, I am making jewelry inspired by my creative work. Thank you for reading and I look forward to your comments.
