Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - Cryptic is Dangerous!

in Splinterlands11 days ago

Hello everyone! This is my first entry for this week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. Today, I'm sharing a battle of mine in Modern Diamond Ranked.

I fought an interesting battle in Modern Diamond ranked. In this game, I faced against Cryptic. Cryptic is a Rebellion legendary summoner and it was one of the airdrop cards. It was the second one, coming after Lorkus. I never bought it because I didn't have the funds, since I had purchased a max level Lorkus. I do have 2 copies, but it's not enough to play at highest level. This is a dual splinter summoner for Death and Water. It's a very strong card that I wish I had bought at the time.

As for the stats and abilities, it nerfs the whole enemy team's speed by one and provides Blind, which further increases their changes of missing. Players can choose two different tactics. The first one gives Poison and Expose to up to two targets. The second one gives Retaliate and Enfeeble to up to two targets. The first option is used much more often but the second one should not be forgotten. The one thing I don't like about the card is the Blind. Abilities like Blind and Dodge should be avoided since they create frustrating games with a lot of misses and RNG. I think the game would be better if these abilities were phased out. It's especially bad in summoners because those abilities will last the whole match, no matter what. The art is pretty cool and the background is crazy with the wavy Water side clashing with the sharp zigzag lines of the Death part.

This game had the following rule sets: Wands Out, Explosive Weaponry, and Blood and Sunder. The mana cap was 36, with only Death and Earth inactive. I picked Quix the Devious and placed Djinn Oshannus in front. I followed it up with Oshuur Constantia, Spirit Hoarder, and Anasth Soothsayer. I finished the team with Captain Fellblade. They opted for Cryptic and also used Djinn Oshannus as their tank. Next, they used Water Caller and finished the team with the same 2 units as me. They gave Poison and Expose to Djinn Oshannus and Anasth Soothsayer. I think giving it to the Captain might have been better because that would make Poison hit different units but maybe they wanted as many Exposes as possible on my Oshannus.

Rounds 1, 2, and 3

Our teams had the same speed and there was Blind on both sides, which means no one had an advantage in this regard. My big advantage was the Triage and it showed when I managed to kill their Captain, while mine was still at 5 HP.

Round 4

My Captain finished their Anasth Soothsayer and Oshuur eliminated their Oshannus.

Rounds 5

I quickly finished their last unit.

Both teams were similar. Djinn Oshannus was in front, with a unit with Deflect behind it. Anasth Soothsayer and Captain Fellblade were the last two. The difference was that I had the Triage. I certainly could have been unlucky with Blind and lost the game but I believe the Poison on their Captain would have increased their odds. The mana cap was not high enugh to make use of Cryptic, that's why my team worked out better.
