Splinterlands - Don't sleep on Mana Warden!

Hey everyone, it's that time of the week again to make another Splinterlands blog!
With so much going on in the Splinterverse it's impossible to have everything and participate with everything, since our time and resources are limited, but I'm doing as much as I can to grind every day and prepare in the best way for the new modern set up next year, and while I'm not using these silver level cards for now, I delegated them to an idle account and have fun (and practice a bit) with them when I have some spare time, and I have to say, even at the low levels it's a lot of fun playing splinterlands! 😀

This weeks Social Media Challenge is the same as last weeks, so we're pretty much free to do whatever we want, as long as it's a quality post so that's great!
To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the splinterlands post here.

With I believe the final phase of the Hall of Legends getting launched in 12 days, a lot of the promo cards are top player goodies and that's not a bad thing at all because the game needs these big boys.
As a smaller player I skip on most of them or maybe get a low level card, for example Sanctus Vicar is great in poison rule sets and it has the back line cleanse ability from level 1, but for $2.72 per BCX it's a $60 card to get it to pick up the cleanse ability as well, and that's too much for me for one card! 😆

It's the same with the new voucher promo card, while Ulfga the Blighted is a great card, a $17 card without attack isn't 'need to have'for me, but the previous voucher promo card definitely IS need to have in my opinion, and I want to share this with the community and especially the newer players!

So, for players unaware of this great card, the Mana Warden is a great card because it's usable for the Fire as well as the Life splinter, and I think it will become much more used in the new modern when Chaos Legion rotates out and when there's more utility for the Rebellion dual splinter summoners, because when you use these you can use the Mana Warden almost with every splinter!

Why it's so great? It has the 'Shield Ward' ability at level 1, and with only 18 cents per card at the time of making this post it's very affordable, I think it's the best to get this card to level 2 to get that extra attack but it's still below $1.
In battles where melee units can attack from every position such as Melee Mayhem or Super Sneak it can attack as well from the second position and really shines. Because of the low health it's less usable in Equal Opportunity battles because it will get killed fast unless you're using a taunt unit.

Oh, and by the way, since today Rebellion is sold out!

But of course you can still buy packs from other players on the secondary market, as a smaller player I think you can better pick the cards you need and just buy them instead of buying packs. While it's a lot of fun to open, it depends on luck and I have been lucky in the past, pulling a Gold Foil Legendary Runeseeer Sevaya I sold for $125 so that was awesome, I still think it's better to just pick what you need.

Enough talk, show us how great Mana Warden is!

Good plan, and I have saved a great battle for this post where my level 2 Mana Warden really shines!

This is a 39 mana Modern League, Reversed Speed / Melee Mayhem / Lost Legendaries ruleset with only the Fire, Death and Dragon splinters open to be chosen from, since the most obvious Dragon summoner is Quix, actually speeding up the other team this wouldn't be the best choice, Fire being slow with high damage is the most obvious choice here I think and Tarsa would boost the melee damage too, so I think a Tarsa / Fire team is my choice and probably my opponent will think the same way, let's build a cool team with it and see what my opponent did!

First look at the battlefield:

Yup, it's Fire against Fire alright but with different summoners, Skargore isn't the best choice I think because it gives enrage to units, and they get faster when enraged too - not the best strategy in the Reversed Speed rule set!
The other team is doing more melee damage because of the Inspire and the 4 magic damage can also be a problem... let's see how this battle goes!

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Tarsa - reason: +1 melee damage.
  • First position: Forgotten One - reason: Retaliate, Piercing and heavy damage.
  • Second position: Mana Warden - reason: Good damage for 4 mana, gives Shield to Forgotten One.
  • Third position: Antoid Platoon - reason: Shield, Scavenge.
  • Fourth position: Disintegrator - reason: -1 melee damage to the other team.
  • Fifth position: Scavo Hireling - reason: Repair Forgotten One's armor.
  • Sixth position: Septic Slime - reason: Backline defense with self heal.

The Battle:

Round 1: The retaliate really works great in a Melee Mayhem rule set, and my opponent had the same idea, the shield ability Mana Warden gives to Forgotten One really makes the difference though, my Forgotten one is still alive, but the other one is killed, hopefully the magic won't kill mine too fast!

image.png

Round 2: Whoah! That went REALLY fast! Some abilities are there but you don't pay much attention to it, like with Disintegrator's Trample for example, but this time it killed two monsters in 1 turn with it! The only danger - the magic is eliminated as well, this won't take long!

Round 3: That's a sounding victory, my entire team is still alive! 😀

Mana Warden, together with the great team work with Forgotten One made this possible, as a reward I received 4.3 SPS and over 500 glint, pretty nice!

Mana Warden boosted my earning with 10% as well because it's a promo card, when you don't own this card, you should get it! 😉

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

Well that's it for this post, I really like this card, especially for this price now it's still under 1 USD!

I hope to see you on my next post, or maybe we see each other sooner, on the battlegrounds of Praetoria!

Wow! I never use my mana warden, this is a great example when I can use it

Every card has it's purpose, but with so many cards we tend to forget certain ones, happens to us all!
