Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets - Heavy Hitters

Welcome to another Battle Mage Secrets post, this time featuring the Heavy Hitters rule.

Heavy Hitters

When this rule is in effect, all the Monsters in the field get the Knock Out ability, which doubles a card damage, when attacking a Stunned Monster.

So, unlike many other rules, this one is just a field effect that you can use in your favor, assuming of course, that you have Monsters with the capacity to Stun others. And of course, depending on the level of your cards, you’ll have more or less options.

Defensive wise, there isn’t much you can do to avoid being Stunned, besides increasing your evasion, making the enemy Monsters that could Stun you, miss and miss.

And when talking about offense… well… make sure that you have a Monster with the Stun ability in your ranks, if you want to take advantage of this rule. There isn’t much else to it, so here are some options:

• From the Fire Splinter, the Septic Slime and the Technowizologist, from the Riftwatchers set. They can Stun already at level one. There is also the Lava Launcher, but it has to be level four.

• From the Water Splinter you have Igor Darkspear, but he gets Stun at level four. We also have the Riftwatcher card, the Water Caller, which has Stun from level one. And a great Stun Monster is the Sultry Maid, from the new Rebellion set, which gets Stun at level three, plus she also has Ambush, which makes a great combination of effects.

• From the Earth Splinter, the Hill Giant gets Stun from level six. And from the Riftwatchers set, you have the Uloth Dhampir with said effect already from level one.

• From the Death Splinter, we have a great cheap card from the Chaos Reward set, the Revealer, which has it already at level one. Then, you have the Magi Necrosi, but it gets it at level six.
  
• From the Life Splinter, another Riftwatcher, the Runeslinger can Stun from level one.
• At last, a Dragon. The Twilight Basilisc is a Reward card from the Chaos Reward edition, so it’s also cheap to level it up. It gets Stun at level five.

Lineup & Analysis

Battle from the Wild Format, at the top of the Diamond League. In my case, as always, I use Silver level cards, while my opponent used mixed level cards, some of them maxed, some at a Silver level cap. All Splinters allowed with the exception of Water and plenty of Mana to assemble any team.

Besides from Heavy Hitters, we had a Blast and a Reverse Speed ruleset, so… interesting. Although I had healing options in other Splinters or the chance to use plenty of Magic power, since Earth was allowed, I opted for the Melee strength of Fire, but I also wanted to take advantage of the Reverse rule effect by using those slower Fire Monsters.

• So, as my Summoner Tarsa. Extra Melee attack and extra Health point, which helps in an Explosive Weaponry rule.
• As a tank, Grum Flameblade. His Bloodlust could be counter-productive in this kind of rulesets, but he only has one point of Speed, so I took the risk. Besides his Melee attack is insane and he has a lot of hit points.
• Then, the Radiated Brute. I could’ve probably chosen something stronger, but the Brute has low Speed and a strong attack, so it guarantees me a lot of damage, at least in the first round.
• Next, the Molten Ash Golem. His attack is quite weak, but again… lots of hit points that help holding the line in an explosive battle. Besides, low Speed.
• In fourth position, the Magi of Chaos. Three points of Magic damage and only two points of Speed, so a great option to diversify my attacks.
• In fifth position, the Tenyii Striker. I wasn’t quite sure of using him, but he is a reasonable option. Strong Melee attack, boosted by Tarsa, plus a decent amount of health point.
• In last position, an antique… the Ettin Spearman. I don’t use it very often, with the number of options we have nowadays, but in this case, he was tailored maid for this battle. Slow Speed, high Health and very good attack with a Piercing effect.

Even though my opponent had higher level cards, I won, quite easily I would say. The main reason I won, was my opponent’s Summoner of choice, Skargore. Using her is a great idea when you have an Explosive Weaponry ruleset, since Rage is going to affect more Monsters, improving their stats, which at the same time improve their efficiency in battle.

However, in this case there was also a Reverse Speed rule, which made the slower Monsters faster and vice versa… I paid attention to my Monster’s Speed, my opponent didn’t.

At last, the Heavy Hitters rule… I didn’t take advantage of it, because I don’t have many Monsters that can Stun, with the exception of the Revealer in the Death Splinter, but I didn’t think said Splinter was going to be as useful overall. My opponent did use a Monster with the capacity to Stun, the Lava Launcher, but the Enrage ability boosted it’s Speed making it slower, so it couldn’t land the only attack it launched… Stun is not a sure thing anyways…
