A few days ago I was walking downtown to buy some things I needed and I saw a man of about forty years old running through the paved streets barefoot, while carrying some huge cabillas on his shoulders. It is worth noting that it was almost one o'clock in the afternoon and the sun was terribly strong, however, the man's attitude was quite good despite the circumstances. Honestly, it touched my heart and I admired the effort this person was making.
A few minutes later, I saw a young beggar, who looked perfectly healthy (both physically and mentally), sitting near a liquor store asking for money. That situation got me thinking a lot, how was it possible that a young person was begging for money, while an older one was working? Maybe they think that the reason is because he hasn't gotten a job, well that can't be possible, I live in a fishing area where they give work to anyone and they even give away fish so they can work. There are also many fields where they can clean, help plant or harvest, they have many options, sometimes I think they ask just because they don't want to work and it is easier for them to ask.
In my community, there lives a person who used to be homeless, he works every day running errands, throwing garbage, helping in construction and cleaning in my community. Because of that, they gave him a house and they also give him food. He is a man in his fifties and has mental problems (nothing serious, thank God), and he doesn't ask for money, he asks for work.
Also a few days ago I went to a place that is about forty minutes away by bus, in the middle of the road, I saw a young man a little older than me, in the middle of the road pushing a cart in which a child was riding. They seemed very animated, laughing as they talked. It hit me in the heart, especially when I heard their story, that is, a young man and his son going from the place where I was going to the market to work carrying what they could. I saw them several times and they always had that good vibe, although one day I saw him alone and he didn't look as cheerful as when he was with the child, maybe he was just keeping that cheerful atmosphere because of the child.
It's amazing, there are so many people making an effort to earn some money despite their difficulties, and others who simply want to be given what they want without effort. Like those, I have seen many more people, I am very sensitive and many times I have wanted to cry seeing those scenes, but I can't do it because what they need is encouragement, not pity. I admire these people very much and I hope that life will reward them for their efforts.
