There's a New Bug in Town | Noxic Fan art

New Holos on the horizon!

Hello Holozing community! It's a pleasure to see you all here, this time unveiling the new Holozing designs and their new creatures. And this time, they're bug-type Holos, so we can expect more of this category. Of course, you know I'll be here to paint them.

The first one to be introduced is Larvie, a very cute caterpillar species. But I've gone straight to its evolution: Noxie, a humanoid butterfly that I really like. Being able to pose it and those huge, colorful butterfly wings accompanying it—it's simply a brilliant design. Let me present this Holo in a battle mood, where you can see it deploying venom through the spines on its arms. I've added a glimmer of movement in its gaze to emphasize that it's a dangerous Holo in battle.

🔰Process🔰

-Step 1:

Since this Holo has a humanoid form, I looked for a pose that would show some dynamism but wasn't too exaggerated. This way, I could also showcase the wings without complicating my life while drawing them. With a clear idea of the desired result, I created a clean outline, aiming for fine and firm lines. Where my hand trembled, I used the eraser to correct as many imperfections as possible.

-Step 2:

When filling in the character's shape, I divided its components into different sections. This allowed me to work with separate layers. I used different colors to distinguish these layers—eight in total—to fill the form. It helped me keep track of each area and improve my workflow. I directly applied colors from the background color palette.

-Step 3:

As I mentioned earlier, since this Holo poisons enemies with each attack, it was obvious that it should expel venom from the spines on its arms. I didn't try to be subtle—I simply added a couple of venom jets expelled into the air. Using clipping layers, I gradually added volume to each limb with a soft brush. My goal was to shape it through color, taking advantage of the cool light coming from behind the creature's head.

-Step 4:

I considered adding clouds to the sky in the background, but I felt it might resemble the fight scene between Wrackdoom and Zingu too closely. So, I painted a bit of ground and focused on giving more color variations to the wings. They really made the character stand out against the blue background.

-Step 5:

The color palette reflected Noxic's venomous nature, and I was thrilled about that. I further enhanced these colors using blending modes like "overlay" and "soft light." This gave the character even more volume, making it appear more lifelike. Considering that the Holozing team plans to create 3D models of the characters, this might serve as a reference for how the Holos would look as action figures.
