Lettering and Drawing [ENG/ESP]

Hola amigos de Hive! Feliz jueves, el día de hoy les muestro un libro de lettering y dibujos que por fin pude estrenar. Este es un libro de la editorial Guadal, acá te enseñan a hacer lettering que es el arte de dibujar letras, no es lo mismo que caligrafía.

The first thing they teach you are the differences between calligraphy and lettering. Lettering has existed since man began to write and is present in signs, signals, windows, blackboards, letters, etc. Calligraphy is the art of writing and is related to the style or form of writing that each person develops. Lettering is the art of drawing letters and there are several techniques to develop it. It could be said that lettering is the fusion between illustration and writing.

Lo primero que te enseñan son las diferencias entre caligrafía y el lettering. El lettering, existe desde que el hombre empezó a escribir y está presente en letreros, señales, ventanas, pizarras, cartas, etc. La caligrafía es el arte de escribir y está relacionada con el estilo o forma de escritura que desarrolla cada persona. El lettering es el arte de dibujar las letras y hay varias técnicas para desarrollarlo. Se podría decir que el lettering es la fusión entre la ilustración y la escritura.

The first exercise they give you is to make capital letters in Brush Script. For this I used a marker with a brush tip which is quite comfortable for me to achieve the thickness and thinness that each letter requires. On the sheet, there is the first printed letter and you have to copy it next to it and so on with the entire alphabet. Being the first time I've done it, it took me a bit to loosen up my hand but I guess with practice I'll get better (hopefully) haha. 😂

El primer ejercicio que te dan, es hacer mayúsculas en Brush Script. Para esto utilicé un marcador con punta de pincel la cual se me hacer bastante cómodo para lograr el grosos y la delgadez que cada letra requiere. En la hoja, está la primera letra impresa y hay que copiarla al lado y así con todo el abecedario. Al ser primera vez que lo hago, me costó un poco soltar la mano pero supongo que con la práctica iré mejorando (espero) jaja. 😂

After each lettering exercise, there is a picture to color. In the act of coloring, our brain is capturing shapes and understanding the circuit that the hand makes to generate each letter. That is why they include phrases within the drawing, to use as a reference.

Luego de cada ejercicio de lettering, hay un dibujo para colorear. En el acto de colorear, nuestro cerebro va captando formas y comprendiendo el circuito que hace la mano para generar cada letra. Por eso incluyen frases dentro del dibujo, para usar de referencia.

To paint this drawing I continued using the brush tip markers and these have a watercolor type effect which I like the effect it gives. I did not use a specific order for the colors, I just added them as I went along, it took me a couple of days to finish it and it was quite relaxing, time goes by quickly with these drawings. It is definitely a book that I will enjoy until the end.❤️

Para pintar este dibujo seguí usando los marcadores de punta de pincel y estos tienen un efecto tipo acuarela el cual me gusta el efecto que da. No utilicé un orden específico para los colores, solo fui agregándolos conforme iba avanzando, tardé un par de días en terminarlo y fue bastante relajante, el tiempo se pasa rápido con estos dibujos. Definitivamente es un libro que disfrutaré hasta el final.❤️
