Eddlestow Lot Picnic Area: Site of the Old Wirestone Quarry

in WE ARE MOVING2 months ago

The Eddlestow Lot Picnic Area may not be the most exciting spot to go and investigate, but it has its own nice circular walk. It looks like someone has lost their key.

I followed the well-marked footpath that took me through the lush greenery of the area, which is surrounded by heathland.

The site was once home to the old Wirestone Quarry, which provided stone for local buildings and infrastructure. As I wandered through the area, I could still see some remnants of the quarry.

August is the time when the lovely purple heather starts appearing. The flowers of the heather provide food and shelter for a variety of wildlife, including bees, butterflies, and birds.

It is the first time I've seen bilberries this year. They grow on low bushes. The blue-black berries can be picked and made into jams and pies.

There were a few rowan trees with their red fruits.
Their seeds are spread by the birds.

There were some lovely views over the open fields. It was cooler today, so it wasn't as tiring walking around.

After that, I ended up back on the country lane. Why do people drive too fast on the back lanes? I was pleased to get back to the car park unscathed.

What a lovely walk in wonderful scenery! Miss seeing carpets of heathers and wide green fields.
Yup! People are becoming inconsiderate and rude these days! They are chasing peace and quiet!

I'm just glad I didn’t end up in the hedge bottom! 😊
