Global support grows for South Africa's genocide case against Israel at ICJ
This Thursday is when the International Court of Justice is supposed to start hearing the case in which South Africa accuses Israel of carrying out genocide in Gaza.
Only Israel and the United States have publicly opposed the lawsuit thus far; five nations, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Jordan, Turkey, and Malaysia, have openly supported it.
At the end of December, South Africa lodged a complaint in which it claimed that Israel had committed genocide during the Gaza battle. In the lawsuit, it is demanded that the harsh military campaign, which has killed over 23,000 Palestinians—nearly 10,000 of them children—end.
The South African and Israeli genocide case will be the subject of the first hearing at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. This is especially noteworthy because the whole community is calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The majority of other countries have either said nothing or given ambiguous statements. White House National Security Agency spokesman John Kirby described the case as without merit in a video statement.
